Bengaluru Rains: 5 Things You Should Never Do While Driving Through Flooded Roads

The city of Bengaluru has been witnessing heavy rainfall for a few days now. As a result, some parts of this city has witnessed flood-like situation. As such, here are top 5 things you should not do while driving through flooded areas.

Do Not Drive On Unfamiliar Roads

During monsoon, it is always better to use a familiar road. This is because the condition of the road might be hidden under the flood water. Additionally, it will be difficult to judge the depth of the flood in unfamiliar roads.

Flooded Roads

Do Not Splash

While driving through flood water, the water getting splashed has enough momentum to dislodge the bumper and cause other damages. Moreover, the water splash will deposit more dirt on the underside of the car.

Avoid Sudden Braking

Sudden braking will not only increase the chances of someone hitting your car from the rear but it will also increase the chances of water getting inside the engine. This happens due to the creation of a vacuum inside the engine as revs fall.

Do Not Take Foot Off The Accelerator Pedal

If you are travelling through a flooded road and the water level is above your car's exhaust level, we recommend keeping a light foot on the accelerator pedal even if you are slowing down as falling revs can suck the water from the exhaust pipe.

Do Not Start The Car

Do not try to restart your car engine if your stalls while driving on a flooded road. We highly recommend towing the car to the nearest mechanic before cranking the engine to avoid further damage to the vehicle.
