2025 Toyota GR Corolla Launches With New Direct Automatic Transmission And Enhanced Features
The 2025 Toyota GR Corolla is set to expand its lineup with the introduction of an 8-speed GAZOO Racing Direct Automatic Transmission (DAT), complementing the existing 6-speed manual option. This addition caters to both manual enthusiasts and those preferring automatic handling. The GR Corolla, inspired by track driving, has undergone rigorous testing on challenging courses like Fuji International Speedway.
For the 2025 model year, the GR Corolla's engine torque has been increased to 295 lb.-ft., aligning with the 2023 Morizo special edition. The suspension has been retuned for improved cornering stability. Additionally, a redesigned front bumper accommodates new cooling components, such as an optional sub-radiator and an Automatic Transmission Fluid cooler for DAT models, enhancing cooling efficiency while maintaining aerodynamics.
The GR Corolla's turbocharged G16E-GTS 1.6-liter 3-cylinder engine delivers 300 horsepower at 6,500 rpm. High-strength engine parts and a turbocharger contribute to a thrilling ride. To maintain optimal performance temperatures, an automatic transmission fluid cooler is standard on DAT models, with a sub-radiator available as an option on Premium grade and standard on the new Premium Plus Grade.
The newly available 8-speed DAT focuses on achieving fast downshift speeds. Its control software anticipates optimal gear shifting based on driver inputs, offering a driving experience akin to professional drivers. The DAT allows drivers to concentrate more on acceleration and steering maneuvers, potentially enhancing track performance.
Meanwhile, the six-speed intelligent Manual Transmission features rev matching activated by a button near the shifter. For 2025, clutch system updates provide a snappier pedal feel, particularly during quick starts and half-clutch operations.
Advanced Driving Modes
The GR Corolla offers four drive modes: Sport, Normal, ECO, and Custom. The DAT is specifically tuned for Sport mode to maximize driving potential. The vehicle's development involved global testing on race circuits to ensure exciting performance.
The GR-FOUR All-Wheel-Drive system enhances traction and control by optimizing power distribution to each wheel. Drivers can select from Normal, Gravel or Track AWD modes using a dial to adjust front/rear torque distribution according to driving conditions.
Aerodynamic Enhancements
The GR Corolla's front bumper redesign improves cooling and aerodynamic balance. It accommodates components like a radiator, intercooler, brake ducts, sub-radiator, and automatic transmission fluid cooler behind it. Improved brake ducts draw in air more effectively for enhanced handling stability.
An air curtain construction creates inward airflow at the tire top to suppress turbulence around it. This design ensures smooth rearward airflow contributing to better handling stability.
Connected Technology
Inside the GR Corolla is a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with customizable settings alongside an eight-inch touchscreen featuring Toyota Audio Multimedia system with touch and voice activation capabilities.
The multimedia system supports wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility while offering dual Bluetooth® phone connectivity options along with cloud-based navigation through Drive Connect* trial or subscription services providing real-time updates via Google POI data integration ensuring up-to-date search capability.
