2025 Mustang GTD Breaks Records As Ford's Most Powerful Street-Legal Car

The 2025 Mustang GTD, engineered by Ford, sets a new benchmark with 815 horsepower, 664 pound-feet of torque, and a top speed of 202 mph. This makes it the most powerful street-legal Mustang ever. The car's certified horsepower and torque, along with its advanced active aerodynamics, carbon-ceramic brakes, and inboard-rear suspension with semi-active dampers, are crucial for achieving an official sub-seven-minute lap at the Nürburgring.

Mustang GTD’s supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine delivers more horsepower per liter than the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. This engine benefits from Mustang’s first-ever dry-sump oil system, which maintains lubrication during intense cornering. The dry-sump system also allows a slightly higher maximum engine speed of 7,650 rpm, up from the previous 5.2-liter V8's limit by 100 rpm.

The revised intake and exhaust systems, standard titanium exhaust, and a smaller supercharger pulley contribute to the engine's impressive output ratings. Beyond raw power, the Mustang GTD features a Drag Reduction System that adjusts the rear wing angle and activates flaps under the front of the car to balance airflow for speed and downforce for grip based on performance conditions.

Greg Goodall, Chief Program Engineer for Mustang GTD, stated, "We’ve been laser-focused since day one to make Mustang GTD the first-ever supercar with world-class performance and the soul of a Mustang." He added that combining engineering talent with cutting-edge technology has been key to achieving their goals.

Goodall also highlighted the collaboration between engineers, designers, and a skilled driver to harness Mustang GTD’s technology, power, and aerodynamics effectively. "We can’t wait to deliver on our sub-7-minute promise to GTD customers," he said.
