New E-Skyactiv G Engine Powers 2025 Mazda3 And CX-30 With Advanced Tech Features
The 2025 Mazda3 range includes 15 hatchback and 2 saloon models. Both models retain the 186ps e-Skyactiv X engine and introduce a new 140ps e-Skyactiv-G engine. The 2025 Mazda CX-30 range also sees minor updates. Orders for the Mazda3 are open now, while the CX-30 can be ordered later this autumn.
The biggest change in the 2025 Mazda3 and Mazda CX-30 line-up is the introduction of a new e-Skyactiv G engine. This new engine replaces the current 2.0-litre 122ps e-Skyactiv G engine with a popular 2.5-litre version, producing 140ps. This engine, already found in the Mazda CX-5, features cylinder deactivation and the Mazda M-Hybrid mild-hybrid system.
This new engine delivers an increase in usable torque, producing 238Nm at 3,300rpm compared to the outgoing engine's 213Nm at 4,000rpm. This improvement ensures better real-world performance for both models. Additionally, acceleration from 0-62mph is faster by 0.9 seconds with the manual gearbox in both car types, while the automatic versions see similar improvements.
Both models maintain their award-winning exterior design and high-class interiors but now feature integrated Alexa Voice Assistant. The navigation system benefits from cloud-based points of interest and database updates. These connectivity upgrades complement existing features like a 10.25-inch centre screen, Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Qi Wireless Charging, and USB Type-C charging ports introduced in the previous model year.
The top-of-the-line models retain the unchanged 186ps e-Skyactiv-X engine with SPCCI technology, producing maximum torque of 240Nm at 4,000rpm. This engine offers a broader operating band of combustion efficiency for better fuel economy and higher maximum torque. The Mazda M Hybrid mild-hybrid system’s software ensures smooth torque reactions during linear acceleration.
Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director of Mazda UK, commented: "The addition of the 2.5-litre e-Skyactiv G engine with its cylinder deactivation to Mazda3 and Mazda CX-30 is part of our multi-solution approach to powertrains and sustainability that also features e-Skyactiv X with its SPCCI technology in Mazda3 and Mazda CX-30." He added that models like the Mazda2 Hybrid, MX-30 R-EV, and CX-60 PHEV further highlight this approach.
Model Variants
The stylish Mazda3 Saloon comes exclusively with the 186ps e-Skyactiv X engine for the 2025 model year in Exclusive-Line grade only. It shares its wheelbase with its hatchback sibling but is longer by 200mm due to unique exterior panels and a longer profile.
Across both line-ups, engines can be paired with manual or automatic transmissions. The range-topping Mazda CX-30 e-Skyactiv X Takumi is available with all-wheel drive.
The introduction of these engines reflects Mazda's commitment to meeting customer needs while ensuring efficient performance. The larger combustion chamber allows for more efficient combustion processes, resulting in lower emissions while delivering high levels of torque for an improved driving experience.
Mazda's multi-solution approach includes various powertrain options across their models to cater to different market requirements. The popularity of the CX-30 ensures it remains a key part of their SUV range.
The updated engines not only enhance performance but also improve noise, vibration, and harshness characteristics for better refinement in both car types.
