2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Recognised As Finalist For North American Car Of The Year Award

The 2025 Honda Civic hybrid, an electrified version of America's favourite compact car, is a finalist for the 2025 North American Car of the Year award. This announcement was made by a jury of automotive journalists at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The new Civic hybrid, available as both a sedan and hatchback, integrates Honda's award-winning two-motor hybrid system.

Honda's electrification strategy is significantly advanced by the new Civic hybrid models. These vehicles are expected to account for around 40% of Civic sales. Jessika Laudermilk, assistant vice president of Honda Auto Sales, stated, "We are honored to have our new Honda Civic hybrid models among the finalists for North American Car of the Year – recognition that we've electrified America's retail #1 compact car and our highest volume gateway model."

Honda Civic Hybrid Named Finalist for Award

The North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year awards celebrate excellence in innovation, design, safety features, performance, technology, driver satisfaction and value. Established in 1994, these awards are judged by 50 professional automotive journalists from the United States and Canada who work for independent magazines, television, radio, newspapers and industry websites.

The 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid offers four trim levels: LX (sedan only), Sport, Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid. These trims deliver up to 200 horsepower with 232 lb.-ft. of torque. The hybrid variants provide quick acceleration while maintaining excellent fuel economy ratings. Notably, they achieve a 50-mpg city rating for both the Sedan Sport and Sport Touring hybrids.

To enhance driving enjoyment and comfort in the Civic lineup, ride dynamics have been optimised with unique spring and damper tuning. A special tire developed specifically for the Civic hybrid further improves handling. Additionally, these models feature advanced noise reduction technologies like Active Noise Control and wheel resonators on Sport Touring trims.

Legacy of Success

The Honda Civic has been a staple in America since its introduction in 1973. Nearly 13 million Civics have been sold in the U.S., making it one of the top three best-selling passenger cars over five decades. The current generation continues this legacy as a popular choice among Gen Z buyers and first-time car owners.

Honda's two-motor hybrid system powers not only the Civic but also other models like Accord and CR-V hybrids. This system has been praised for its power and efficiency by WardsAuto editors. In fact, it received a "Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems" award for two consecutive years.

Manufacturing Excellence

The fourth-generation Honda two-motor hybrid-electric power unit is assembled at Ohio's Honda Transmission Plant. It pairs with an all-new 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine produced at Ohio's Anna Engine Plant. Key components such as main bearing caps and camshafts have been redesigned to enhance production efficiency.

Honda has manufactured nearly 12 million Civics in North America since starting production there in 1982. The current generation is built using domestic and globally sourced parts at facilities in Alliston, Ontario (Sedan) and Greensburg Indiana (Hatchback).

Award-Winning History

The Honda Civic has won North American Car of the Year three times: in 2006 with its eighth generation; again in 2016 with its tenth generation; most recently taking top honors again last year with its eleventh iteration.

Apart from these accolades specific to Civics alone over recent years - including wins by Ridgeline (2017) or Accord (2018) - demonstrate how consistently well-regarded various models within their lineup remain among industry experts judging such competitions annually since inception back during mid-'90s era when first introduced publicly across continent-wide markets alike!
