New Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB Set To Launch On October 9: BMW 5-Series LWB Rival

Mercedes-Benz India is gearing up for the launch of the V214 E-Class LWB, gearing up to rival the BMW 5-Series LWB, with a confirmed release date of October 9. Following its launch, eager customers can expect deliveries to commence before the festive period of Diwali within the same month. The introduction of this new model spells the end for the previous version that hit the market in 2017, ushering in a vehicle that boasts advanced technology and superior comfort.

The upcoming E-Class LWB will be available with a choice of two four-cylinder engines: a 204hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol, and a 197hp, 2.0-litre turbo-diesel. Both powertrains are enhanced by 48V mild hybrid systems, adding an extra 23hp and 205Nm of torque. These engines are paired with a 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, promising a blend of performance and efficiency.

Unlike its predecessor, the latest E-Class has grown in dimensions, being 13mm taller and 14mm longer, with its wheelbase extended by 15mm. This growth not only contributes to a more imposing road presence but also enhances interior space for passengers. The exterior design clearly distinguishes itself from the older model, drawing design cues from the modern Mercedes EQ models.

It features a prominent chrome grille with an oversized 3D Mercedes logo, flanked by smaller three-pointed stars, and a gloss black panel that encircles the grille. Further distinguishing features include flush door handles reminiscent of those found on the S-Class, stylish 18-inch wheels, and newly designed LED tail lamps that incorporate a tri-arrow pattern.

Interior and Technological Advancements

Inside, the E-Class LWB sets a new standard with the introduction of the Mercedes Superscreen layout. This includes a 14.4-inch central touchscreen, a 12.3-inch passenger touchscreen, alongside the digital instrument cluster, significantly elevating the in-cabin experience. It also boasts a 4D surround sound system courtesy of Burmester, enhancing audio quality throughout the vehicle.

Although the front seats lack ventilation, the driver's seat benefits from a memory function, and passengers can enjoy slightly more reclining backrest angles between 26 and 36 degrees, compared to the outgoing model. With three interior colours available, all options will feature a common black dashboard shade, maintaining a consistent aesthetic.

It's noteworthy that the new E-Class LWB will not offer air suspension in any of its variants, a decision that may influence the driving dynamics and comfort levels. Despite this, the vehicle is expected to deliver an enhanced driving experience, supported by its advanced engine options and comprehensive technological upgrades.

The launch price for the E-Class LWB is anticipated to begin at around Rs 82 lakh, marking it as a premium offering in its segment. This pricing strategy places it slightly above the outgoing model, signaling Mercedes-Benz's confidence in the new E-Class's upgraded features and capabilities to justify the premium.

As Mercedes-Benz prepares for the debut of the new E-Class LWB in India, the automotive industry and potential buyers await with anticipation. This launch not only promises to expand Mercedes-Benz's luxury segment offerings but also sets a new benchmark in terms of technology and comfort within the executive sedan class.
