In Thailand, Honda City is also available as a hatchback. While the sedan version received a facelift last year, the Japanese automaker recently updated the City hatchback to the latest design.

Performance

The 2024 facelift introduces a total of five variants, as opposed to its predecessor's four. Starting with the base model S+ priced at around 5,99,000 Bhat (Rs 13.85 lakh, approximately) the lineup extends to RS variants, reaching up to 7,49,000 Baht (Rs 17.32 lakh, approximately).

Powering these variants is a 1.0-litre VTEC Turbo petrol engine, delivering 121bhp and 173Nm of peak torque. This engine is not only efficient but also supports a blend of fuel known as gasohol, which includes about 10% ethanol, showcasing Honda's commitment to greener alternatives.

A notable addition to the lineup is the e:HEV SV variant, positioned at 7,49,000 Baht (Rs 16.85 lakh, approximately). This variant features an innovative Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) hybrid system, which combines a 97bhp 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with a 108bhp electric motor.

This setup not only enhances fuel economy but also contributes to the hatchback's smooth and responsive drive, thanks to a unique transmission system that seamlessly integrates electric and petrol power.

Styling and Design

The facelifted Honda City Hatchback draws design inspiration from its sedan counterpart, featuring a more refined front grille and slimmer chrome accents for a sleeker appearance. The RS variants, in particular, sport a more aggressive bumper and a new diffuser-like element at the rear.

Interior and Technology

Inside, the Honda City Hatchback maintains its familiar layout but introduces thoughtful tweaks to enhance passenger comfort and convenience, such as additional USB-C charging ports and a dedicated smartphone pocket for rear occupants in the e:HEV variants.

Technology-wise, the car is equipped with the Honda Sensing suite across all variants, offering advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) such as a multi-angle reverse camera and Honda LaneWatch, among others, to ensure a safer and more connected driving experience.

Thoughts About The 2024 Honda City Hatchback

Despite its array of updates and the introduction of a hybrid variant, the Honda City Hatchback will be at a disadvantage in the Indian market where the SUV segment continues to dominate consumer preferences.
