Connor O’Sullivan Wins Round 2 Of Formula DRIFT PROSPEC Championship In NJ
The Formula DRIFT Link ECU PROSPEC Championship Round 2 took place on Friday, June 21, 2024, at Old Bridge Township Raceway in Englishtown, NJ. The event saw Connor O’Sullivan from the USA clinch his first win since joining the series as a rookie in 2023. He triumphed over Lee Yearwood, Cody Buchanan, and Cory Talaska before facing Amanda Sorensen in the final.
The competition began under scorching 95˚F weather conditions, cooling slightly during the final heats at night. The track, a former quarter-mile drag strip, has been converted into a dedicated drift arena. All teams used GT Radial spec tires and Link ECUs.
This round introduced a new Seeding Bracket format on Thursday, replacing traditional solo qualifying runs. The top 16 drivers participated only in practice sessions before the Top 32 competition heats. Drivers ranked 17-32 went through a 32-car Seeding Bracket to qualify, giving them more track experience.
The judging panel for this round included Brian Eggert (USA), Reese Marin (USA), and Vernon Zwaneveld (Netherlands). A new rule for this round stated that if a driver puts two tires off the course, it would be considered an incomplete run. Tire drops for the lead car in Outside Zone 1 were deemed more severe errors than in previous years.
Top Performers
Amanda Sorensen’s second-place finish marked her best result since joining the Link ECU PROSPEC Championship in 2021. This achievement propelled her from 36th to seventh in the points race. Notably, Sorensen became the first female driver in Formula DRIFT history to stand on the podium.
Tommy Lemaire from Canada secured third place, allowing him to retain his overall points lead in the PROSPEC Championship with a total of 170 points. He extended his lead from 16 to 28 points over O’Sullivan, who moved from 13th to second place.
Top Rookie
