2024 BMW Championship At Castle Pines Golf Club Raises Record $10.2 Million For Youth Caddie Scholarships
The 2024 BMW Championship at Castle Pines Golf Club in Colorado generated $10.2 million for caddie scholarships, as announced by the Western Golf Association. This record donation to the Evans Scholars Foundation is the largest in the tournament's history, highlighting its dedication to supporting educational opportunities for young caddies. Since 2007, over $60 million has been contributed to the Foundation, providing scholarships to more than 3,600 caddies.
More than 138,000 fans attended the event from August 20-25, marking the PGA TOUR's return to Colorado after a decade. Keegan Bradley emerged victorious with a score of 12-under par, narrowly defeating Ludvig Åberg, Adam Scott, and Sam Burns by one shot. This victory marked Bradley's seventh PGA TOUR win and his second BMW Championship title.
The funds raised will support full tuition and housing scholarships through the Foundation, which was named Scholarship Provider of the Year by the National Scholarship Providers Association in October. Currently, a record 1,190 caddies are enrolled as Evans Scholars at 24 universities across the country.
The tournament also celebrated its impact on caddies' lives with Evans Scholars participating in practice rounds and events throughout the week. Philanthropists George and Geoff "Duffy" Solich were inducted into the Caddie Hall of Fame during a special ceremony before the tournament began.
The PGA TOUR awarded the 2024 BMW Championship "Tournament of the Year" on December 11 during its annual Tournament Meetings. This marks the sixth time it has received this honour since 2008. Marcus Casey, Chief Marketing Officer of BMW North America, expressed gratitude for this recognition.
Ilka Horstmeier from BMW toured the University of Colorado Evans Scholarship House in Boulder during her visit. She engaged in a fireside chat with Evans Scholars moderated by Alexandra O’Laughlin. Horstmeier stated that education is crucial for societal cohesion and self-determination.
Community Engagement and Future Plans
The event was also recognised for "Best Tournament Sales," reflecting unprecedented enthusiasm upon returning to Colorado. Duffy Solich acknowledged that these awards belong to everyone involved in organising this first-class PGA TOUR event.
Castle Pines Golf Club Chairman George Solich emphasised their commitment to delivering an exceptional golf experience. The recognition reflects their efforts in showcasing both competition spirit and community support.
