1000 Miglia Warm Up USA Kicks Off With Scenic First Leg And Time Trials
The Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Spider Zagato, driven by Shawn and Leanne Till, launched the 1000 Miglia Warm Up USA race from N. Madison Street in Middleburg at 9:00 a.m. The first leg, covering over 340 kilometers, is the longest of this edition. The journey began under a bright sun, setting the stage for an exciting day of racing.
After departing Middleburg, drivers faced their initial Time Trials near a local school. Following these trials, the convoy moved westward for about 50 kilometers to reach Warren County Airport, where the first Passage Control took place. This marked a significant milestone in the day's events.
Participants then engaged in Average Trials along Fort Valley, known as "the valley in the valley," nestled between two northern arms of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Another Average Trial occurred at Kennedy Peak, offering stunning views enhanced by vibrant colours on this sunny day.
After passing through Shenandoah for another Passage Control, competitors headed to Barboursville estate. Here, they tackled 10 Time Trials on dirt roads amidst vineyards imported by the Zonin family from Italy. A lunch break followed at Ristorante Palladio, renowned for its authentic Italian cuisine.
The race resumed at 2:15 p.m., with more trials starting from Barboursville Vineyards. Crews then journeyed northward to face two additional Average Trials amid gentle hills and curves—first at Haywood and then around Carters Run. These trials tested both drivers' skills and endurance.
Upon returning to Middleburg, participants were welcomed back to Salamander's new residential area for another set of 10 Time Trials. After a short pause awaiting nightfall, a new night race sector commenced at 7 p.m., marking a unique feature of this year's event.
Final Stages and Event Conclusion
The night race unfolded in Atoka Chase's private area without natural light; LED lights illuminated pressure switches for timing accuracy. This challenging segment added excitement to the competition as drivers navigated through darkness.
The day's racing activities concluded at Middleburg's National Sporting Library & Museum. This marked the end of an exhilarating day filled with diverse challenges and scenic routes that tested both drivers' skills and endurance throughout various trials.
