Shawn And Leanne Till Secure Victory At 1000 Miglia Warm Up USA 2024 In A Historic Alfa Romeo
The 1000 Miglia Warm Up USA 2024 showcased a thrilling three-day race in the Washington DC area, with defending champions once again proving their prowess. The U.S. team, driving a 1931 Alfa 6C 1750 Zagato, claimed victory in both the main event and the Middleburg Trophy's 1 vs. 1 challenge. The crowd's enthusiasm was palpable as Shawn and Leanne Till narrowly defeated Cameron Luther and Anna Meldau in a 1955 Porsche 356 Pre-A Super Speed.
Six crews secured spots for the 1000 Miglia 2025 through their outstanding performances across various classes. In the Veteran category of the 1000 Miglia Era, Stephen and Kim Bruno, driving a 1955 Mercedes 300 SL, joined the Tills in receiving accolades. Among Novices, Paterniti-Wilson in a 1954 Jaguar XK 120 and Luther-Meldau in their Porsche also earned recognition. For the Post-1000 Miglia Era Class, Cereghini-Lersner with a 2020 Ferrari F8 Tributo triumphed among Veterans, while Robinson-Woodward excelled with a 1967 Porsche 912 among Novices.
The event combined sports training with rigorous Time Trials and Average Trials against stunning natural backdrops and luxurious hospitality. This unique format continues to captivate participants and spectators alike. An unexpected Indian Summer brought warm weather, drawing large crowds of fans to witness the races.
Night Time Trials at Atoka Chase were particularly well-received, along with the intense head-to-head challenge. Participants also paid tribute to iconic landmarks such as the White House, Capitol Hill, and National Mall before visiting the Italian Embassy. There, they were warmly welcomed by Ambassador Mariangela Zappia, who greeted them on Italian soil within Washington DC.
The combination of competitive racing and cultural experiences made this year's event memorable for all involved. The organisers successfully blended tradition with modern elements to create an engaging atmosphere that celebrated both automotive excellence and international camaraderie.
