1000 Miglia Warm Up USA 2024 Begins With Historic Racing And Trials In Washington D.C.

The fifth edition of the 1000 Miglia Warm Up USA has commenced in Middleburg. This event features 20 crews navigating 800 kilometres over three stages around Washington D.C. The format is designed to prepare drivers for the main 1000 Miglia race in Italy. It includes a training day at Summit Point Raceway, followed by three days of competitive racing.

Today, participants began their journey at 9:00 am from Salamander Resort, a luxurious 340-acre retreat recognised by Forbes Travel Guide. They headed to Summit Point circuit for theory and practice sessions to master regularity race techniques. After these sessions, crews will compete in the Micro 1000 Miglia, featuring four Time Trials and an Average Trial on their return route to Salamander Resort.

The car lineup includes models from 1927 to 1957, reflecting the original decades of the 1000 Miglia. Notable vehicles include a 1957 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 GS Spider Zagato and a 1950 Ferrari 166 Touring Coupé, alongside modern cars. Participants vie for six guaranteed spots in the 2025 edition of the Italian race.

Winners will secure admission guarantees for the upcoming Italian race. Four spots are reserved for the top two finishers in both Veteran and Novice categories within the 1000 Miglia Era class. Two additional spots are available for winners in these categories within the Post-1000 Miglia Era class, which includes cars built after 1958.

The first leg of the race begins tomorrow, covering about 340 kilometres around Shenandoah National Park. The second leg takes participants into West Virginia before returning to Summit Point circuit and then back to Middleburg for an exciting head-to-head Middleburg Trophy challenge in the town centre.

On the final day, competitors will travel through Maryland before heading into Washington D.C., concluding at the Italian Embassy in the United States. This challenging route tests both classic and modern vehicles across diverse terrains and conditions.

The event not only showcases historic cars but also provides an opportunity for drivers to hone their skills ahead of Italy's prestigious race next year. With its mix of classic charm and modern competition, it offers a unique experience for participants and spectators alike.
