Volkswagen ID.7 Electric Sedan Arrives With 700km Range
German carmaker Volkswagen has revealed the ID.7 electric sedan. The Volkswagen ID.7 is the flagship vehicle in VW's ID lineup of EVs and offers a range of up to 700km (WLTP) on a single charge.
The Volkswagen ID.7 at launch will be offered in two guises - Pro and Pro S both of which offer a single-motor rear-wheel drive setup. The ID.7 will go on sale in Europe and China later this year with the US set to follow in 2024.
The Volkswagen ID.7 sedan will be offered with two battery pack options at launch - 77kWh and 82kWh. The entry-level ID.7 Pro features the smaller battery pack that delivers a range of 615km (WLTP) and can charge at speeds of up to 175kW.
The Pro S variant sports the new 82kWh battery pack that delivers a range of 700km and charging speeds of up to 200kW. The Pro S is expected to sprint from 0-100km/h in around 6 seconds.
The Volkswagen ID.7 sports a new motor and gearbox setup which is the most powerful ever fitted to a rear-wheel drive VW ID product to date. In the VW ID.7 Pro S, the motor produces 282bhp and 645Nm of peak torque which is sent to the rear wheels via a new single-speed gearbox.
However, the ID.7 Pro S is not expected to be the most powerful version of the ID.7. Volkswagen is said to be working on an ID.7 GTX model with a dual-motor, all-wheel drive setup.
The new Volkswagen ID.7 sports a fastback design and is nearly 5 metres long. The ID.7 sports a hatchback-style boot and the new electric sedan cuts through the air with ease thanks to its low 0.23Cd drag coefficient.
The new ID.7 is quite visibly similar to its siblings - ID.3, and ID.4. The front sports wraparound headlights that join up with the VW badge at the centre with the help of LED light bars.
The sides feature character lines that run from the headlights to the rear and help shape the air around the car and a blacked-out roof and pillars that give the ID.7 a distinct two-tone look.
At the rear, the ID.7 electric sedan features full-width lightbar-style taillights. Also seen are what appear to be reflectors or more lights lower down on the rear bumper.
Step inside the cabin of the ID.7 and you'll find yourself greeted by a large 15-inch infotainment display that dominates the minimalistic dash of the sedan. The ID.7 also sports a sleek driver's display and an augmented reality (AR) heads-up display.
Other features on the ID.7 sedan include massage seats, an electrically dimmable panoramic sunroof, a 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system that includes a large subwoofer in the boot and the IDA voice assistant.

The Volkswagen ID.7 is the German firm's answer to the Tesla Model 3 in its home European market, China and the US. The ID.7 is the flagship of the current ID EV lineup from VW and it more than deserves its place at the top of the pile with its 700km range.
