Mahindra Thar 5-Door To Come With Bigger Infotainment Unit – Spy Shots Go Viral
The spy shots of the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door version have gone viral. This is because the latest spy shots reveal that the upcoming model will come equipped with Mahindra's latest infotainment unit which is slightly bigger than the one in the outgoing version of the Thar SUV.
Analysing the spied images, we can come to an assumption that the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door version is in its final pre-production form. This means the automaker is left with a job of a few minor tweaks before commencing the production of the model.
That being said, the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door was highly anticipated to be unveiled on the 77th Independence Day of India. As such, we expect Mahindra to unveil the Thar 5-door before the end of 2023.
Speaking about the Mahindra Thar 5-door, the design of this SUV is expected to be quite similar to the outgoing 3-door version of the Mahindra Thar SUV. However, we do expect the model to come with slightly more premium bits around the outside and inside to justify the premium pricing.
Along with the minor design changes, we also expect the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door SUV to come with more features apart from the larger infotainment unit. This is likely to include features such as LED lighting, an electric sunroof, USB-C charging ports, rear AC vents, and more.
In terms of powertrain, the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door SUV is likely to sport the same engine options as the Mahindra Scorpio N SUV. This is because the Thar 5-door SUV uses a slightly modified version of the Scorpio N platform.
In the Mahindra Scorpio N SUV, the 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine produces 200bhp and 370Nm of torque. On the other hand, the higher-spec diesel engine puts out 172.5bhp and 400Nm of peak torque.
That being said, we do not expect the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door SUV to come equipped with the lower-spec diesel engine. Furthermore, we do not expect this model to come without the 4WD layout.
Speaking about 4WD, we expect all variants of the Thar 5-door to be offered with low-ratio transfer case, and mechanically locking differentials. On top of that, the model will also be offered with both automatic and manual transmission options.
Given its premium positioning in the Indian automobile market, we expect Mahindra to offer the upcoming Thar 5-door SUV in both automatic and manual variants. On top of that, all variants are expected to be offered with four-wheel-drive, low-ratio transfer case, and mechanically locking differentials.
In terms of pricing, we expect the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door SUV to be at least Rs 2.5 lakh more expensive than the equivalent 3-door version of the Mahindra Thar SUV.
Thoughts: The upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door SUV could become another success story for Mahindra and may even become one of the best-selling models in Mahindra's history. That being said, we expect the production capacity to be a major problem for Mahindra.
