Suzuki Swift Sport: Hybrid Technology Revolution!
Set to garner spotlight early next year, the new generation Suzuki Swift Sport is set to make its international debut. A prominent upgrade that's creating a buzz is the addition of a 48V mild hybrid system.
Maruti Suzuki, a leading car manufacturer in India, recently unveiled the new generation Swift concept at the Tokyo Mobility Show. The car, which looked production-ready, has been under testing in India. Spy shots taken a few days ago have shed light on key details of the approaching model.

The Exciting New Swift & Its Expected Launch
The 4th Generation Swift is scheduled to make its international debut in 2024, with its Indian launch falling around the same timeline. Alongside the regular model, the Japanese carmaker will also launch the Swift Sport in international markets.
However, much like its predecessors, the sport version of the Swift is not expected to reach Indian shores. As per recent media reports from Japan, the Swift Sport is projected to debut globally by Spring 2024, which falls between March to May.
The hatchback’s design will showcase a more aggressive aesthetic compared to the regular model, thereby enhancing its sporty appeal. A reworked version of the existing HEARTECT platform will serve as the backbone for the vehicle and will be shared with the regular model.
Powertrain Upgrades In The New Gen Swift Sport
A significant addition to the new generation Swift Sport will be the incorporation of mild hybrid technology in the powertrain. According to reports, the current 1.4 litre Boosterjet Turbo petrol engine will be retained in the next generation model, but it will be coupled with a new 48V mild hybrid system.
The engine currently produces a power output of 140bhp and 230Nm peak torque. Minor alterations in terms of compression ratio and fuel injection system will be implemented to enhance the overall performance. Although the output figures are likely to remain largely unchanged, the electric assist from the mild hybrid motor could potentially boost the power and torque.
Furthermore, the availability of low-end torque will be increased, and fuel-efficiency figures will be improved. The transmission options, including the 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic, are expected to remain the same.
Design & Launch Plans For India
The dimensions of the Swift Sport are expected to mirror the current model, but Suzuki plans to reduce the body weight to augment performance. On the Indian front, the regular 4th Gen Swift is planned for launch in 2024. However, there is no current plan to introduce the Sports model in India.
Thoughts About The Suzuki Swift Sport
The new generation Suzuki Swift Sport is an exciting development, especially with the introduction of the 48V mild hybrid system. Though Indian enthusiasts might have to wait a bit to see the Sport version on the roads, the upgraded 4th generation Swift is definitely a launch to look forward to.
