Mahindra Thar 5-Door Interior Spied: New Tech & A Lot More
The Indian automobile market is buzzing with anticipation as Mahindra continues testing its upcoming 5-door Thar variant. The enthusiasts who have been closely following its development are in for a treat, as recent interior spy shots reveal a suite of enhancements that promise to elevate the driving experience.
These upgrades are set to differentiate the 5-door model significantly from its compact 3-door sibling and cater to a wider audience seeking both practicality for daily use and robust off-road capabilities.

Advanced Tech and Comfort Upgrades
One of the most talked-about updates is the integration of a larger touchscreen infotainment system. The current Thar's 7-inch screen has received some flak for its user interface and size, which pales in comparison to the 8-inch screens commonly found in other mainstream vehicles.
The 5-door Thar aims to address this with a potential 10-inch display featuring an enhanced interface and graphics, housed within a slightly redesigned dashboard. The familiar array of AC vents, HVAC controls, and a distinctive band of toggle switches are expected to remain, providing a sense of continuity with the traditional Thar layout.

Comfort hasn't been overlooked, with the addition of individual armrests for the front seats and dedicated second-row AC vents, both of which are not present in the 3-door version. While the test vehicle was spotted with dummy seats at the rear, the final seating configuration is yet to be confirmed, and could include either a regular bench seat or two separate seats as seen in the standard Thar.
Enhancing the Driving Experience
Other notable features likely to grace the new Thar include an updated instrument cluster with a larger Multi-Information Display (MID), possibly borrowed from the Scorpio N, and a dashcam for added safety and convenience.

The prospect of enjoying the open sky through a single-pane sunroof, evident in the spy shots, adds to the allure of the 5-door variant, which will only be available with a hardtop.
Performance-wise, the 5-door Thar is expected to carry forward the tried and tested 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol engines, coupled with the familiar 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
Anticipated Launch and Market Positioning
The debut of the 5-door Thar is projected for mid-2024, and with its array of enhancements, it's expected to command a premium price, potentially ranging between Rs 16 lakh to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). Mahindra is setting its sights on SUV buyers who demand versatility—a vehicle equally adept at navigating city streets as it is conquering rugged terrain.
In doing so, the 5-door Thar will need to offer more than just the bare essentials, and it seems poised to deliver just that. Despite the camouflage still veiling the test mules, there are hints of an altered design ready to distinguish the 5-door from its 3-door counterpart.
As we edge closer to its arrival, the growing list of features is generating substantial buzz among potential buyers eager for a practical yet adventurous SUV. In conclusion, with the 5-door Thar, Mahindra is not just expanding its iconic line-up but also redefining what fans can expect from an off-road centric SUV.
It's a blend of ruggedness, technology, and comfort that's set to take both urban and wild adventures to the next level. The wait may be a year away, but the excitement is palpable, as this new Thar variant promises to open up new horizons for off-road enthusiasts and urban drivers alike.
