Toyota Fortuner Updated In Thailand – Now Gets More Powerful Engine
The Toyota Fortuner is not only a popular SUV in India but it is also prevalent in Southeast Asian countries like Thailand. Speaking about Thailand, the Japanese automaker has updated its Fortuner SUV in Thailand.
The latest updates are applicable to all three variants of the Toyota Fortuner SUV sold in Thailand. These updates include a revised features list, heavily updated safety systems, uprated hardware, and powertrain upgrades.

It is also worth mentioning that some of the updates are variant-specific. This means the updates you may see on the top-spec Fortuner GR Sport variant may not be applicable to Legender or Fortuner Leader variants.
Starting with the base-spec Toyota Fortuner Leader, the updated iteration of the SUV now comes equipped with a wireless charger. This is a very useful feature to have in 2023, especially considering that many phones now sport wireless charging capability. This tech also frees the car interior from dangling wires.

On the other hand, the updated Toyota Legender and the top-spec Fortuner GR Sport SUVs now get features such as a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a new 9-inch infotainment unit, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
Safety system upgrades include Toyota's new Safety Sense Suite. This safety suite includes features such as lane watch, lane change warning, collision avoidance assistance, blind-spot monitoring, and a few more.

Safety updates for the Toyota Fortuner Leader include RCTA reversing warning system, a blind spot monitoring system (ORVM-mounted), and a very handy 360-degree surround view camera. All these safety features make the Toyota Fortuner Leader a more attractive option as well.
In terms of hardware, both the Toyota Legender and Fortuner GR Sport now feature an upgraded suspension setup for better body control and a smoother ride. However, for the Fortuner GR Sport, the upgrades are a bit more comprehensive.
A closer look at the suspension setup of the updated Toyota Fortuner GR Sport reveals that the SUV now features much more advanced monotube shock absorbers. This suspension setup is said to reduce vibrations and thus improve driving performance as well.
Since the Toyota Fortuner GR Sport variant leans towards the sportier spectrum, the updated model now features a new range of accessories. These new elements include smart key, red brake calipers, and aluminium pedals.
Further enhancing the sportier appeal of the Toyota Fortuner GR Sport is a heavily uprated powertrain. It is also worth mentioning that the uprated powertrain is exclusive for the Toyota Fortuner GR Sport.
Thanks to the uprated powertrain, the 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine in the updated Toyota Fortuner GR Sport SUV now produces 221bhp and 550Nm of peak torque. In comparison, the older model and the Indian-spec model produce just 201.2bhp and 500Nm of peak torque.
Thoughts About The Updated Toyota Fortuner In Thailand
With the launch of the updated Fortuner SUV in Thailand, we expect Toyota India to soon introduce these updates to the Indian-spec Fortuner SUV. However, we are not sure if Toyota India will introduce the more powerful diesel engine with the update given the more stringent emission regulations in India.
