Prioritizing Your Childs Safety: Top Rated Cars and SUVs in India
There's no denying the importance of safety when it comes to purchasing a new car, especially in India. With the advancement in technology, modern vehicles come equipped with a host of safety features to ensure the security of your child in and around the car.
In fact, child safety ratings are one of the key factors considered by crash testing agencies in their evaluations. On this Children's Day, let's delve into some of the cars and SUVs that have been awarded a 5-star rating in child safety by the Global New Car Assessment Programme (GNCAP).

Tata Safari and Tata Harrier
Fresh off the lot, the Tata Safari and Tata Harrier have managed to secure a perfect 5-star rating in child occupant safety, scoring an impressive 45 out of 49 points. The vehicles were tested by GNCAP using dummies simulating an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old child.
The dummies were seated facing rearward, secured with i-size anchorages and a support leg, which effectively prevented head exposure in a frontal crash. Moreover, the child restraint systems (CRS) offered full protection in a side-impact crash.

Additional safety features that the new Harrier and Safari are equipped with include an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite with forward-collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, high beam assist, lane departure warning, blind-spot detection, and traffic sign recognition among others. They also come with seven airbags, ISOFIX mounts, hill hold control, and a 360-degree camera to ensure utmost safety.
Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia
The Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia have also achieved a commendable 5-star rating in child occupant safety, scoring 42 out of 49 points. The vehicles were tested under similar conditions, using dummies of an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old child.

The same i-size anchorages and support leg were used, effectively preventing head exposure in a frontal crash, while the CRS provided full side-impact protection.
These models also come with two engine options and a host of safety features including six airbags, ISOFIX mounts, hill hold control, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), child lock, and a middle rear three-point seatbelt among others.

Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq
Not to be left behind, the Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Kushaq have also secured a 5-star rating in child occupant safety, scoring 42 out of 49 points. GNCAP tested the cars with child seats for a 3-year-old and an 18-month-old, which were able to prevent head exposure during a frontal impact, offering full protection. These models are also equipped with six airbags, ISOFIX mounts, hill hold control, ESC, child lock, and a middle rear three-point seatbelt among others.
Hyundai Verna
Another sedan that has made it onto the list is the Hyundai Verna, the first Hyundai sold in India with a 5-star rating, scoring 42 out of 49 points in child occupant safety. The Verna was tested using dummies of an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old child, and successfully prevented head exposure in a frontal crash while offering full side-impact protection.
The Verna is equipped with numerous safety features including six airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), all four disc brakes, child lock, speed sensing door locks, and a middle rear three-point seatbelt among others.
