Tesla Shatters Expectations: Model S Hits 1.2 Million Miles!
Electric vehicles (EVs) have been charging into the automobile market, with Tesla at the forefront of this electrifying revolution. Tesla's reputation for innovation is matched by a lingering question: Can EVs truly rival the reliability of their internal combustion counterparts?
A remarkable Tesla Model S from 2014 offers a compelling tale, having logged nearly 1.2 million miles (around 19 lakh kilometres), a distance that surpasses the even endurance of most legendary Toyota vehicles.

Owned by Hansjörg von Gemmingen-Hornberg, this Tesla Model S has set a landmark in the history of electric vehicles with its astonishing mileage. Before committing to the Model S, Gemmingen-Hornberg had already demonstrated his enthusiasm for EVs with a Tesla Roadster.
He even drove his Tesla Roadster for 4 lakh miles. Despite challenges with the nascent charging infrastructure, in 2014, he acquired a pre-owned Model S with 18,641 miles already clocked.

It wasn't all smooth driving. The Tesla Model S, like many EVs, faced its share of mechanical challenges. The rear motor, in particular, proved to be a recurring issue, necessitating 14 replacements over the vehicle’s extensive life span, including the original motor.
Despite this, the owner's passion for road trips propelled the Model S to incredible distances, reaching remote destinations such as Africa, Morocco, Sweden, Austria, and even China. Gemmingen-Hornberg attributes his success in part to his moderate driving habits, avoiding pushing the car to its limits.

He religiously takes breaks every 62 miles and waits until the battery drops to 20 percent before recharging. While the owner has been reticent about the longevity of other components such as brakes and tires, he notes that both the exterior and interior of the Model S have withstood the test of time.
Notably, the vehicle is currently on its fourth battery pack, highlighting the durability and longevity of Tesla's engineering. It's a testament to the owner's dedication that, even though the journey has necessitated significant maintenance and part replacements.

As such, the Model S has emerged as an emblem of high-mileage potential for EVs. In recognition of this feat, Tesla CEO Elon Musk personally congratulated Gemmingen-Hornberg when the vehicle crossed the 10 lakh kilometre milestone in 2019.
Thoughts About Tesla Model S
This high-mileage Tesla Model S not only breaks stereotypes but also sets a new benchmark for electric vehicle reliability. It shows that with proper care and maintenance, EVs can endure long distances typically associated with the most reliable traditional vehicles.
