The Tata Punch iCNG was first showcased at Auto Expo 2023 in February. Like the recently launched Altroz iCNG, the new natural gas-powered version of the Punch micro SUV sports a twin-tank CNG storage setup that does not eat up too much space in the boot.
Like the Altroz iCNG, the new Punch iCNG gets the ability to start in CNG mode while the auto switch function allows those behind the wheel to go from CNG to petrol automatically.

The Punch iCNG's 1.2-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder engine pushes out 72bhp and 103Nm of torque, a drop of 12bhp and 10Nm of peak torque compared to when the micro runs on petrol power. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The Tata Punch iCNG is identical in terms of its looks to its petrol-powered siblings except for the presence of the iCNG badge on the tailgate of the micro SUV.
The interior of the Punch iCNG is also mostly unchanged, mostly. Other than the indicator for the mode on the dash, the new Tata Punch iCNG is the first version of the micro SUV to sport a sunroof.

Other than the sunroof, the top-spec Tata Punch iCNG sports automatic projector headlamps, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, a height-adjustable driver's seat, a digital driver's display, automatic AC and an engine start/stop button. The 7.0-inch infotainment touchscreen supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Tata Motors also launched dual-cylinder versions of the Tiago iCNG hatchback and Tigor iCNG compact sedan in India. The dual-tanked Tiago iCNG starts at Rs 6.55 lakh while the twin-cylinder Tigor iCNG commences at Rs 7.8 lakh (ex-showroom). The switch to a twin-cylinder setup has seen the prices of all CNG variants of the Tiago and Tigor rise by Rs 5,000.
Thoughts About The Tata Punch iCNG
The Tata Punch iCNG sees the Mumbai firm's micro SUV add natural-gas-powered variants to combat the newly launched Hyundai Exter which arrived at launch with CNG variants. By undercutting its rival, the Punch iCNG is sure to attract more eyeballs towards itself, especially when it is the only version of Tata's micro SUV to feature a sunroof.
