Tata Punch Gets Fully Digital Instrument Cluster As Standard – The “Exter” Effect?

The Tata Punch is one of the best-selling SUVs in the country and it quickly gained traction in the Indian automobile market, thanks to its aggressive pricing, bold styling, 5-star safety rating, and lack of direct rivals.

With the mounting threat from Hyundai's Exter micro SUV, Tata Motors has decided to add more 'feel good' features to the Punch SUV to help it beat its South Korean rival. The newest feature to make its way into the Tata Punch SUV is a digital instrument cluster.

This new digital instrument cluster will be part of the standard equipment of the Tata Punch SUV up until the top-spec Creative trim. This digital instrument cluster is a 4-inch unit that was previously used in the pre-facelift version of the Nexon SUV.

That being said, the top-spec Creative trim level of the Tata Punch now features a more advanced semi-digital instrument cluster. This instrument cluster also features TFT technology and looks a lot more premium than the 4-inch digital instrument cluster offered in the lower trim levels.

Thanks to the new equipment levels, we expect Tata Motors to introduce a slight price hike across all variants of the Tata Punch SUV except for the base trim level to keep the starting price attractive.

In terms of powertrain, the Tata Punch SUV will continue to be powered by the same 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally-aspirated Revotron petrol engine. This engine in the Tata Punch SUV is tuned to produce 84bhp and 113Nm of peak torque.

Furthermore, Tata Motors is also offering a CNG variant of the Tata Punch SUV in India. This model comes with dual-cylinder technology, which massively improves the boot space compared to other CNG vehicles.

In CNG mode, the Tata Punch SUV is tuned to produce 76bhp and 97Nm of peak torque. Also, unlike the petrol-only variants, the CNG model comes exclusively with a 5-speed manual transmission, and the AMT gearbox continues to remain exclusive to the petrol-only variants.

The Tata Punch is one of the safest SUVs you can currently buy in India. With the introduction of the new features, we expect the Tata Punch SUV to become even more desirable to potential new car buyers in the country.
