Tata Nexon EV Facelift Vs Mahindra XUV400 – Quick Comparison

Tata Motors recently launched the facelifted version of the Tata Nexon EV electric SUV in India. The model has already received an overwhelming response and we expect the automaker to further increase its lead in the EV segment.

That being said, Mahindra also has a pretty strong contender in the form of XUV400, which is positioned in the same segment as the Tata Nexon EV. As such, here's a quick comparison between both these electric SUVs.

Powertrain

Starting with the powertrain, the Tata Nexon EV facelift Mid Range variant sports a 127bhp electric motor with 215Nm of peak torque. Moreover, the updated model packs in a 30.2kWh battery pack.

On the other hand, the Long Range variant of the Tata Nexon facelift features an all-new Gen2 powertrain system. This new motor produces 142.6bhp and 215Nm of peak torque. Furthermore, this model comes with a bigger 40.5kWh battery pack.

The Mahindra XUV400 is powered by a 147.5bhp electric motor with 310Nm of torque. Apart from that, the new Mahindra XUV400 comes with two battery pack options like the Tata Nexon electric SUV.

The Mahindra XUV400 electric SUV variant with the smaller battery pack is rated at 34.5kWh, whereas the variant equipped with the larger battery pack is rated at 39.4kWh.

Range & Charging

The Tata Nexon EV Mid Range variant can do 325 kilometres on a fully charged battery pack, and the automaker claims that the electric SUV can charge from 10 per cent of its capacity to 80 per cent in just 60 minutes.

On the other hand, the top-spec Tata Nexon Long Range variant can cover 465 kilometres on a fully charged battery pack. Also, using a suitable fast charger, Tata Motors claims a charging time of just 56 minutes (10 to 80 per cent).

Mahindra claims that the XUV400 variant with the 34.5kWh battery pack can travel a distance of 375 kilometres on a fully-charged battery pack, whereas the XUV400 with the larger 39.4kWh battery pack can do 456 kilometres.

Apart from that, Mahindra also claims that the new XUV400 electric SUV can be fully charged in just 50 minutes using a suitable DC fast charger, which is marginally faster than the Tata Nexon EV.

Performance

According to Mahindra, the XUV400 electric SUV can reach 100km/h from a standstill in just 8.3 seconds. In comparison, the newly launched Tata Nexon EV facelift (Long Range) can hit 100km/h in under 8.9 seconds.

It is also worth mentioning that the top speed of the Tata Nexon EV facelift is higher than its predecessor at 150km/h (up by 30km/h), courtesy of its new electric motor that can run at 16,000rpm as opposed to the previous gen's 12,000rpm.

Price

Prices for the Tata Nexon Mid Range variant starts from Rs 14.74 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and the prices for the Tata Nexon EV Long Range starts from Rs 18.19 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and goes all the way up to Rs 19.94 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

On the other hand, prices for the Mahindra XUV400 starts from Rs 15.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the 'EC' trim. However, prices for the higher-spec Mahindra XUV400 EL with dual-tone paint is priced at Rs 19.39 lakh (ex-showroom, India)


Thoughts About Tata Nexon EV Facelift & Mahindra XUV400

Looking at the specs, the Mahindra XUV400 electric SUV seems to be more suited for people looking for better performance. However, the Tata Nexon EV is the more popular model. Moreover, the latest facelift model looks a lot more contemporary and premium.
