The Enyaq Effect: How Skoda Plans to Revolutionize Indian EV Market
The Indian automotive landscape is gearing up for a significant transition towards electric mobility, with several global manufacturers planning to introduce their electric offerings to the market.
Among the anticipated arrivals is the Skoda Enyaq, an electric SUV that has been generating considerable buzz. Recent sightings of the Skoda Enyaq on Indian roads suggest that its launch is just around the corner, with a target date set for 2024.

Underpinnings and Market Positioning
The Skoda Enyaq is built on the same foundation as the Volkswagen ID.4, using the Volkswagen Group's Modular Electric Drive (MEB) platform. This architecture is specifically designed for electric vehicles, allowing for optimal space utilization by extending the wheelbase and integrating the battery pack into the vehicle's floor.
The Enyaq boasts dimensions of 4,648 mm in length, 1,877 mm in width, and 1,618 mm in height, positioning it slightly smaller than Skoda's current top-tier SUV, the Kodiaq. Unlike the three-row Kodiaq, the Enyaq will offer a two-row seating configuration.

Electric Powertrain and Performance
Skoda offers the Enyaq in several versions globally, but it is anticipated that the Indian market will receive the Enyaq 80 variant. This model is equipped with a substantial 77 kWh battery pack, capable of delivering a range of 500 km according to the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP).
Propelling the Enyaq 80 is a rear-mounted electric motor that enables rear-wheel drive, providing a balanced power output of 200 bhp and a peak torque of 310 Nm. The electric SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in a swift 8.5 seconds.

Luxurious Interior and Advanced Features
The cabin of the Enyaq iV exudes luxury and is replete with features set to captivate tech-savvy buyers. It includes a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital cockpit complemented by a head-up display, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, ambient lighting, and a sunroof, amongst other amenities. The higher trim levels offer an even more premium lounge trim for an elevated experience.
The Enyaq's arrival in India will initially be as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), which implies a premium pricing strategy. However, Skoda Auto India has indicated that if the vehicle garners strong market demand, the company would consider local assembly under the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route.

The company is keen on gauging market response with the Enyaq before solidifying its electric vehicle strategy for the Indian market. The Skoda Enyaq will enter the burgeoning electric SUV segment, where it will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6.
Auto enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting the Enyaq's launch since its test models, spotted by Sarthak Shewale, hinted at its imminent introduction. Skoda's commitment to testing and adapting the Enyaq for Indian conditions reflects the brand's dedication to ensuring that the vehicle meets the unique demands of the local consumer base.
With the electric SUV segment heating up, the Skoda Enyaq's blend of technology, performance, and luxury is poised to make a compelling case for itself when it hits the Indian roads in mid-2024.
