'Made in India' Vehicles by Škoda & Volkswagen Exceed 6 Lakh Exports Globally

Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has reached a significant milestone of exporting 600,000 cars from its manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune. As the entity responsible for managing the Indian operations of Volkswagen Group brands such as Škoda, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini, SAVWIPL is playing a crucial role in establishing VW Group as the top European car maker in India.

This achievement solidifies India's position as a key export hub for the VW Group while also expanding its presence in the growing Indian market.The success story of VW Group's exports began with the introduction of the Volkswagen Polo and Vento models, which became pioneers in their respective segments.

These models paved the way for India to emerge as an important export hub for the group. Building on this momentum, models like Volkswagen Virtus, Taigun, and Škoda Kushaq have further propelled exports with their innovative features and adaptability to left-hand and right-hand drive variants.

The demand for these India-made models is strong not only in Mexico but also in GCC countries, Sub Sahara region, North Africa, and other Asian markets. This widespread demand reinforces VW Group's global footprint. Notably, Škoda Kushaq holds significance as it is the first Škoda vehicle exported from India.

Piyush Arora, Managing Director & CEO of Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited expressed his pride in achieving this milestone and highlighted how exports from India are an integral part of their global strategy. He emphasized that crossing 600,000 units mark is significant due to India's strategic geographical location and engineering capabilities that contribute to growing exports. Arora also acknowledged that vehicles like Volkswagen Taigun,Volkswagen Virtus, and Škoda Kushaq continue to receive acclaim globally just like they do in India.The INDIA 2.0 cars have received a positive response worldwide due to their blend of design, quality, safety, and performance.

Mr. Arora also went on to say that the India-made Škoda Kushaq and Škoda Slavia models are set to be exported to Vietnam as parts and components from 2024. To support this expansion, an advanced plant is currently being constructed in Chakan, Pune with an area of 16,000 sq. m dedicated solely to manufacturing these models.

All four INDIA 2.0 models have been awarded full 5-star safety ratings for both adult and child occupants by Global NCAP, making them the safest made-in-India cars available. Additionally, Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus produced in India for global markets have also achieved outstanding 5-star safety ratings in Latin NCAP crash tests.
