Rolls-Royce Spectre Does Not Have Regenerative Braking – The Reason Behind Will Leave You Speechless
Almost all electric cars come with regenerative braking. This simple technology in a way channels the otherwise wasted energy into the battery pack. This way, the overall efficiency of a vehicle is significantly improved.
However, the new Rolls-Royce Spectre electric luxury car does not have this feature in standard mode. This decision to keep the regenerative braking deactivated in standard mode is something that has to do with 'Champagne Stop'.
The 'Champagne Stop' is actually a special braking technique taught at Rolls-Royce's chauffeur training program. This braking technique has been specifically developed to stop the car so smoothly that not a single drop of champagne will be spilt by passengers inside the car.
This technique usually involves maintaining constant pressure while applying the brakes and releasing it slightly just before the car comes to a complete halt. By using this 'Champagne Stop' technique, there will be almost no kickback.
However, applying this braking technique is almost impossible in a car with regenerative braking. As such, Rolls-Royce decided to keep the regenerative braking deactivated in the new Spectre EV while driving in the standard mode.
That being said, the regenerative braking feature can be activated in the Rolls-Royce Spectre luxury electric car by pressing the "B" button in the Spectre's column-mounted gear selector knob. This also allows for a one-pedal drive as well.
Speaking about the Rolls-Royce Spectre, the electric luxury car is powered by two BMW-sourced electric motors. In combined form, this powertrain setup puts out 576.6bhp and 900Nm of peak torque.
Thanks to this powertrain setup, the Rolls-Royce Spectre can accelerate to 100km/h from a standstill in just 4.5 seconds. Furthermore, the WLTP range of the Rolls-Royce Spectre stands at a commendable 520 kilometres.
