Renault and Nissan's partnership recently announced an updated long-term plan for India. This new plan consists of introducing 4 new SUVs, 2 EVs, and transition into carbon-neutral manufacturing.
To execute this extensive plan in India, Renault and Nissan will be investing an amount of Rs 5,300 crore. Furthermore, this new long-term plan will also give rise to 2,000 new jobs at the Renault Nissan Technology & Business Centre in Chennai.

Diving into details, out of the 6 new models proposed for India, it is said that three models will be allotted to each company and these new models will be developed and manufactured in Chennai. It is also worth mentioning that these models will be built on the common alliance platforms.
Though these models are built on the common alliance platform, these models will be retaining the distinctive design language of the respective manufacturer. Also, out of these 6 new models, it is expected that there will be 4 new C-segment SUVs, two A-segment EVs. Also, these two EVs will be Nissan and Renault's first EVs in India.

It is also worth mentioning that the new models that will be introduced in India is not only aimed at Indian customers as the partnership between Renault and Nissan aims to significantly increase exports from its Chennai manufacturing facility. This move is also said to boost plant utilisation up to 80 per cent and increase job opportunities as well.
Coming to the topic of Carbon-Neutral manufacturing, the RNAIPL manufacturing plant is one of Renault-Nissan's leading centres for energy and resource reduction, and it recently announced its roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality and this is expected to be achieved by 2045. Furthermore, this target is likely to be achieved through the ongoing 100 per cent renewal energy transition program.
At present, the RNAIPL plant uses 50 per cent of its electricity from renewable energy sources such as solar, biomass, and wind. That being said, en route to achieving the carbon neutrality goal, the existing solar power plant's capacity will be increased from 2.2MW to 14MW, which is approximately six times the current capacity.
