Porsche Considers Manufacturing Cayenne SUV In India To Meet Rising Demand
Porsche, the renowned luxury sports car manufacturer, has garnered significant popularity in the Indian automotive market. With its iconic designs, high-performance vehicles, and a legacy that spans decades, Porsche has carved a niche for itself among automobile enthusiasts and luxury car aficionados in India.
The car manufacturer is currently considering the possibility of producing its renowned SUV model, Cayenne, in India due to a significant increase in demand last year and the ongoing year - reported ET Auto.

According to reports, Detlev von Platen, who oversees sales and marketing on Porsche AG's board, and Matthias Becker, the vice president responsible for overseas and emerging markets, have arrived in Delhi to hold discussions with senior-government officials regarding the plan. They'll meet officials at Invest India and Niti Aayog today.
The company has not provided any details about the development. The company's sales in India increased by 64 per cent to reach 779 units in 2022, with nearly half of these sales are of the Cayenne model.
India has recently overtaken Japan to become the world's third-largest automobile market. The country enforces a 100 per cent import tax on cars with a value of more than $40,000, which includes insurance and freight-costs. Additionally, a 70 per cent import duty is also applied to more affordable vehicles.

Compared to the CBU, the customs duties on auto parts that are imported in a disassembled state are notably lower, ranging from 15 per cent to 35 per cent. Porsche currently produces vehicles in Germany and Slovakia.
The car makers first assembly plant outside of Europe is about to begin operations in Malaysia, focusing on producing Cayenne SUVs exclusively for the local market. If talks with the Indian government go well, India might also get a new manufacturing facility.
Porsche has an illustrious lineup of cars in its fleet, that ranges from practical luxury SUVs to hyper super sport cars. As of now they sell a range of imported cars like Macan, Cayenne and Panamera priced between Rs 88.00 lakh and Rs 1.84 crore (ex-showroom,India).

The Indian government prefers car manufacturers to produce vehicles domestically instead of importing models from nearby nations. They are against lowering import duties as it stands to adversely impact local jobs and investments.
Tesla had previously requested the government to reduce import duties in order to begin its operations in India. However, the company has now adjusted its strategies for entering the Indian market.
Thoughts On Porsche Considering Setting Up Manufacturing Facility In India
Porsche's consideration of setting up a manufacturing facility in India aligns with the changing dynamics of the country's automotive market. The surge in demand for luxury vehicles, like the Cayenne SUV, reflects the evolving preferences of Indian consumers.
Local assembly could not only cater to this growing demand but also potentially offer cost advantages due to reduced-import-duties on knocked-down auto parts. Moreover, establishing a manufacturing facility in India could enhance Porsche's competitiveness and strengthen its presence in a market that's becoming increasingly significant on the global automotive map.
