2023 Porsche Cayenne Revealed - A Return To Brilliance Before Full Electrification

German performance car specialist Porsche has revealed the all-new Cayenne SUV. The 2023 Porsche Cayenne made its global debut at the ongoing 2023 Shanghai Motor Show.

The mid-life update to the third-generation of the Porsche Cayenne reduces the SUV and its Coupe twin to four basic trim levels - Cayenne, Cayenne e-Hybrid, Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo GT. All variants use an 8-speed dual-clutch PDK gearbox.

The base Cayenne draws power from a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 engine that produces 348.6bhp and 500Nm which is 13.4bhp and 50Nm more than before.

The same turbo V6 engine is also the base for the hybrid setup for the Cayenne e-hybrid variant which now produces 464bhp. The output of the electric motor in the e-Hybrid model has risen from 130bhp to 174bhp.

The e-Hybrid Cayenne also has seen its battery pack rise in capacity to 25.9kWh, an increase of 8kWh over the pre-facelift model. This has led the electric range to rise to 90km on the WLTP cycle. The battery pack can be charged by the in-built 11kW AC charger in 2.5 hours.

In what appears to be a final act of defiance to the Euro emission mentalists, the Cayenne S has reverted back to a V8 for the first time since 2014. The 2023 Cayenne S ditches the 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 for a heavily revised version of the firm's 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8.

The Porsche Cayenne S's new force-fed V8 powerplant produces 474bhp and 600Nm of torque which is 33.5bhp and 50Nm more than the turbo V6's output. The new Cayenne S sprints from 0-100km/h in just 4.7 seconds and can hit a top speed of 273km/h.

The top-spec Turbo GT is limited to the non-European market which means that Porsche fans in its home market will not be able to get their hands on this variant. The Cayenne Turbo GT's 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 pushes out 631bhp which propels the SUV from 0-100km/h in just 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 305km/h.

In terms of its looks, the new Cayenne is boxier than before and features new adaptive HD headlights, boxy intakes and a gaping grille that hosts the equipment for the ADAS systems. The rear features new lightbar-style taillights.

The interior is where the major changes have been made to the new Cayenne. Gone is the semi-digital instrument cluster and in its place sits a curved digital display for the driver. The 12.3-inch infotainment display is the same as before but its UI and software have been updated and are now much more responsive than before.

An additional 10.9-inch display for the front passenger can also be seen on the dashboard and this screen supports streaming services. A special foil prevents the person behind the wheel from viewing the stream on the go.

Thoughts About The 2023 Porsche Cayenne

The 2023 Porsche Cayenne brings quite a few changes under the bonnet and inside the cabin that makes it quite different from its predecessor despite technically belonging to the same generation of the SUV.
