Porsche 911 S/T Revealed - Limited Run Special Celebrates 60 Years Of The 911

German sports car manufacturer Porsche has revealed the latest member of its Heritage Edition series - the 911 S/T. The Porsche 911 S/T celebrates the 60th birthday of the firm's iconic rear-engined sports car and is limited to 1,963 units.

The 911 S/T gets its name from a performance-focused version of the first 911 generation. Porsche in 1969 offered a race version of the 911 S, which was known internally as the 911 ST. However, unlike its racy predecessor, the new 911 S/T is for journeys on public roads.

However, don't let the road-focused nature of the 911 S/T fool you into thinking of it as a money-grabbing special. The new Porsche 911 S/T is the lightest version of the 992 generation at 1,380kg and sports the GT3's powertrain.

This means that the engine at the rear is Porsche's naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six that howls all the way to 9,000rpm while pushing out 517bhp and 465Nm of torque. The 911 S/T's engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual shifter with shorter gear ratios and a lightweight clutch.

This allows the 911 S/T to sprint from 0-100km/h in just 3.7 seconds, with the limited edition sports car topping out at 300km/h. To bring it to a halt in double quick time, Porsche has equipped the 911 S/T with carbon ceramic brakes.

To help the new Porsche 911 S/T achieve its 1,380 kg kerb (DIN) weight, the limited-run Heritage Edition special uses quite a bit of lightweight carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP).

The lightweight stuff has been used for the front bonnet, roof, front wings, doors, roll cage, rear axle anti-roll bar and the stiffening element for the rear axle. Other materials used in the 911 S/T to keep the weight down include carbon ceramic brakes, lithium-ion battery, magnesium wheels, lightweight glass and reduce sound deadening.

The interiors also feature quite a bit of weight-shedding material with the seats and the roll cage made from carbon fibre. The dials feature green backlighting and there is leather trim everywhere, while the perforated is made from Dinamica. The seats also feature fabric inserts.

Porsche has also dropped the rear-wheel steering from the 911 S/T. This makes it the only 911 from the 992 generation to feature the double wishbone suspension of the GT models without rear-wheel steering.

The lightweight magnesium wheels are 20 inches at the front while the rear units measure 21 inches. The wheels come draped in ultra-high performance tyres - 255/35 ZR 20 (front) and 315/30 ZR 21 (rear).
