Porsche 911 GT3 R Rennsport Revealed - The Maddest 911 Ever?

German sportscar Porsche has always been a brand associated with high performance on the track. Now, they're pushing the envelope even further with the introduction of their latest track toy, the Porsche 911 GT3 R Rennsport.

This all-new Porsche 911 GT3 R Rennsport which is set to be revealed to the brand's fanatics at Rennsport Reunion 7 at Laguna Seca Raceway is not your average road car; it's a non-road legal track day toy that's been designed to push the boundaries of what's possible in a vehicle.

Based on the GT3 R, which is itself a customer version of the GT3 racer, the new Rennsport edition takes things to a whole new level. Unlike the standard GT3 R, which has to comply with all the norms associated with regulated racing with the race car, the Rennsport edition does not have to comply with the FIA-mandated regulations. This gives Porsche the freedom to take things to the extreme.

The powertrain of the GT3 R Rennsport is truly impressive. It boasts the same 4.2-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine as the GT3 race car but without the FIA-imposed 557bhp restriction. The result is a remarkable 612bhp, or 147bhp per litre - an incredible figure for a naturally aspirated engine.

The engine utilises E25 fuel, which has a higher ethanol content, allowing Porsche's engineers to increase the compression ratio and advance the ignition timing. Along with custom engine internals, this enables the engine to rev up to an astounding 9400rpm - 400rpm more than the GT3 RS road car.

The GT3 R Rennsport is equipped with a six-speed sequential constant-mesh gearbox, instead of Porsche's usual dual-clutch PDK. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential. Owners also have the option to choose from three different exhaust packages, depending on their preference and track noise regulations.

The suspension system is fully adjustable and based on the 992 GT3 racer design. It comes with five-way adjustable dampers from KW, and Michelin Pilot Sport M S9 slick tyres designed to warm up quickly and provide accessible performance.

Despite its extreme performance, the GT3 R Rennsport is not devoid of style. The aerodynamic design channels Porsche's extensive racing heritage especially that massive rear wing, and the interior features quite a few screens which really give you all the data you need on the track.

The GT3 R Rennsport is limited to just 77 units, making it a highly exclusive vehicle. With a pre-tax price tag of 951,000 Euros (Rs 8.37 crore), it's clearly targeted at the most passionate Porsche enthusiasts - those who already have a few Porsches in the garage and are looking for something truly unique.
