400bhp+ Nissan Safari Rally Z Tribute Pays Homage To Rallying Past
Japanese carmaker Nissan has unveiled its latest creation - the 400bhp+ Safari Rally Z Tribute at the 2023 SEMA show in Las Vegas.
The Safari Rally Z Tribute is a nod to Nissan's illustrious rally history and specifically pays homage to the iconic 240Z that triumphed in the 1971 East African Safari Rally.
The Nissan Safari Rally Z Tribute showcased at the SEMA show in Las Vegas is a modified version of the current (seventh) generation Nissan Z. To bring this project to life, Nissan collaborated with South Carolina-based customizers - Tommy Pike Customs.
The result of this collaboration is a car that encapsulates the spirit and performance of the victorious 240Z from 1971 while integrating the modern technology and design of the current Nissan Z car.
At the heart of the Safari Rally Z Tribute lies a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine similar to the one found under the bonnet of the Nissan Z. However, the Rally Z's force-fed engine isn't your regular V6.
Nissan has upgraded the twin-turbo engine to deliver more than the standard car's 400bhp, thanks to a Nismo track exhaust system and a cold air intake. Also new are the clutch and flywheel while the engine cover is made from carbon fibre.
To prepare the car for off-road adventures, the team at Tommy Pike Customs raised the vehicle by two inches and fitted it with a custom KW Safari suspension setup. The 17-inch Nismo wheels and robust off-road tires add to the car's rugged appeal and functionality. Best of all, the Safari Rally Z tribute sports a manual gearbox.
The vehicle also features additional underbody protection and Nismo spotlights, ensuring it's ready to tackle any terrain while maintaining the nostalgic charm of the classic rally car.
While the Safari Rally Z Tribute is currently a one-off build for the SEMA show, it will undoubtedly stir interest among JDM car enthusiasts looking for a rally-spec sports car, a segment that has become somewhat popular in recent times.
