40km/l Mileage: Next-Gen Maruti Suzuki Swift Spotted Testing In India, Launch Soon
According to reports, the next-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchback test mule has been spotted testing in India. This means the next-gen Swift is just a few more months away from its launch in the country.
Speaking about the Swift hatchback, the model is currently in its third generation and it continues to be one of the best-selling hatchbacks in India. It is also worth mentioning that each generation of Swift hatchback has shown decent improvement over its predecessor.

As such, we also expect the fourth-generation Swift hatchback to showcase decent progress over its immediate predecessor. To put that into perspective, the second-gen Swift offered more space than its predecessor, whereas the third-gen Swift packed in a bit more space, youthfulness and a lot more tech as well.
In light of this progress path, we expect the upcoming fourth-gen Swift to be an improvement over its predecessor. That being said, the 1.2-litre K-series engine has been present in the Swift hatchback since 2010. Though this engine is still capable, it has become a little old.

As such, one of the major changes for the next-generation Swift can be seen under its bonnet. Gone will be the 1.2-litre K-series engine, and in its place will be a new 3-cylinder engine with the same capacity.
This new engine in the next-generation Swift hatchback is codenamed 'Z12' and with more capacity per cylinder at around 400cc, this engine will have a better volumetric efficiency. This will result in improved torque figures as well.

Also, being a 3-cylinder engine, this new engine is also expected to be lighter than the 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder engine in the outgoing iteration of the Swift hatchback. However, there are a few expected demerits to this engine - A mild increase in vibration and loss of free-revving nature.
However, the major advantage of the new X12 engine is its efficiency. In test conditions, the new Z12 engine in the next-generation Swift hatchback is expected to deliver a fuel efficiency figure close to 40km/l.

Such fuel efficiency figures rival scooters and are expected to draw every car buyer's attention in India. So, when launched, we expect a very long waiting period for the next-generation Swift hatchback in India.
Thoughts About The Next-Generation Swift
As Maruti Suzuki commences the testing of the next-generation Swift hatchback in India, we expect this model to be launched by mid-2024. Also, we expect high demand for the upcoming fourth-gen Swift hatchback in India, mainly due to its highly fuel-efficient Z12 engine.
