Chinese-owned British carmaker MG has revealed the Comet EV for the Indian market. The MG Comet EV is the rebadged version of the Air EV from Wuling, another brand owned by MG's Chinese owners SAIC.
The new MG Comet EV for the Indian market retains the design of its Chinese counterpart and is expected to feature a range of 200 to 300 kilometres on a single charge when it arrives on our roads later this year.

The new compact electric vehicle from MG was earlier expected to make its debut at Auto Expo 2023 but the British marque obviously decided that the new Comet EV needed a stage of its own to shine on.
And that name is also something MG has decided to change for the Indian market. In its home market, the compact EV is known as the Wuling Air EV but for India, it bears the Comet name. The name is taken from a 1934 British aeroplane which participated in the England-Australia MacRobertson Air Race.

The MG Comet EV will be one of the smallest four-wheelers to hit our streets. At just 2,974mm long, the Comet is smaller than the erstwhile Tata Nano, with the Bajaj Qute quadricycle being the only four-wheeler currently plying on our roads that is smaller than the new microcar.
The new MG Comet is 1,505m wide and the microcar stands 1,631mm tall. Thankfully for the four passengers seated inside, the electric platform and the boxy shape of the Comet ensure that the microcar has a rather decent 2,010mm long wheelbase despite its tiny size.

Speaking of its looks, the boxy Comet looks identical to its Chinese badge mate with the low-mounted, vertically stacked headlights and the LED lightbar-style daytime running light that ends up on the wing mirrors. The sides feature one door each along with a large vertical window each for the rear passengers.
The rear tailgate sports vertically stacked lights and what appears to be a large full-width lightbar-style brake light. The Comet EV is set to be offered in a dual-tone setup with a balck roof and windows and four colour options - White, Yellow, Blue and Pink.

Speaking about the new Comet EV for India, Rajeev Chaba, President and Managing Director, MG Motor India, "Urban mobility is at a point of inflexion where New Age solutions are needed to address both the current as well the forthcoming challenges. As we move further into the digital age, we will witness an exceedingly large number of innovations that could range from futuristic technologies to unique designs to clean mobility and many others. We at MG, through 'Comet', intend to take the needed decisive steps and a 'leap of faith' in the direction of creating solutions for a better future for each one of us."
Thoughts About The MG Comet EV
The MG Comet EV will be one of the smallest cars to ever hit our roads. The tiny Comet EV electric microcar is expected to come packed with a host of features to justify the price tag of around Rs 10 lakh that MG is expected to slap on it for India.
