MG Comet EV Launched In India At Rs 7.98 Lakh – Test Drives, Bookings, Deliveries & More

MG Motor India has finally launched the MG Comet EV at a special introductory price of Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom, India). At this price point, the MG Comet EV easily undercuts the Tata Tiago EV by Rs 71,000.

According to MG Motor India, the bookings for the MG Comet EV will commence on May 15, and the deliveries are said to begin by the end of the same month. Moreover, the test drives for the newly launched MG Comet EV will begin tomorrow (April 27).

Powering the MG Comet EV is a rear-axle-mounted electric motor capable of producing 41.4bhp of power and 110Nm of torque. Furthermore, the Comet EV comes with a 17.3kWh battery pack and a 3.3kW AC charger.

Speaking about the charger, the MG Comet EV can charge to 80 per cent in just 5 hours using the 3.3kW AC charger and the ARAI-rated range stands at 230 kilometres. Also, MG claims a charging cost of just Rs 519 for 1,000 kilometres.

In terms of size, the MG Comet EV measures just 2,974mm long, 1,505mm wide, 1,613mm tall, and sports a wheelbase of just 2,010mm. To put that into perspective, the Tata Nano is 125mm longer, 245mm wider, 39mm taller and sports a 220mm longer wheelbase as well.

However, despite its compact dimensions, the MG Comet EV is surprisingly spacious following the BICO (Big Inside, Compact Outside) concept. In fact, it can comfortably seat four healthy-sized adults as seen in the below video.

In terms of features, the MG Comet EV packs features such as a large 10.25-inch infotainment, an identical-sized digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, connected car tech, automatic climate control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, Smart Key and more.

Safety features include High Strength Vehicle Body with 17 hot stamping panels, dual front airbags, rear parking sensors, reversing camera, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), ABS with EBD, ISOFIX mounting points and more.

Furthermore, with an aggressive price tag, the MG Comet EV small electric car does not have any direct rivals in India and the closest rivals are in the form of the Citroen eC3 and Tata Tiago EV.
