Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Revealed - New Coupe Get Affalterbach Power
Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 revealed. The Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 is the first AMG version of the new CLE class that was revealed earlier this year as a replacement for the C and E-Class coupes.
Under the bonnet, the CLE 53 is powered by a six-cylinder petrol engine, similar to the one in the CLE 450. In the all-new CLE 53, the twin-turbocharged engine pushes out an impressive 443bhp and 560Nm of peak torque. With the overboost function, the CLE 53 can temporarily increase its peak torque output to 600Nm.
The CLE 53 engine is also a mild-hybrid, featuring a 23bhp integrated starter generator and a 48V motor. This combination not only enhances performance but also improves fuel efficiency and lowers emissions. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive.
The mild-hybrid, twin-turbocharged powerplant, automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive system help propel the all-new Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 from 0-100km/h in just 4.2 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h, though owners can pay extra to lift this to 270km/h.
Mercedes-AMG has equipped the CLE 53 with rear-wheel steering, offering up to 2.5 degrees of movement to boost agility and stability. The Ride Control adaptive damping system is standard on the CLE 53 allowing owners to tweak the suspension settings depending on whether they want comfort or sporty engagement.
Visually, the CLE 53 retains the elegant yet sporty silhouette of the new CLE range but adds AMG-specific touches. These include a distinctive front grille, flared front and rear wheel arches, 20-inch alloy wheels and the AMG signature quad-exhaust tips.
Inside, the CLE 53 sports a 12.3-inch driver's display and an 11.9-inch central touchscreen infotainment system. A new 'Supersport' mode on the driver's display places greater focus on the tachometer, while an AMG menu provides access to the car's data, including gear indicators, a lap timer and G-force metres.
The interior is draped in leather or Nappa leather. If owners opt for the Nappa leather option, the headrests feature the AMG crest embossed onto them. The AMG Performance seats are also another optional extra.

The Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 does not have any direct competition as such but that doesn't mean that the nutters at Affalterbach have let this new coupe escape their production line without getting the full turbo nutter treatment. If this is the 53, we can't wait for the fully bonkers 63 version of the CLE to exit the AMG skunkworks.
