Mercedes-AMG C43 Launched In India At Rs 98 Lakh - F1 Turbo Tech Is Here

Mercedes-AMG C43 launched in India at Rs 98 lakh (ex-showroom). The Mercedes-AMG C43 offers an engine with F1-derived turbo technology and plops it into the practical C-Class.

Yes, the C43 is not the full-blown mad-hybrid version of the C-Class that was revealed to the world earlier this year, but that doesn't mean it isn't a potent weapon on the streets.

The C43 uses the M139l 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine which has been mounted longitudinally (hence the l in the name). The M139 in the C43 AMG is the world's first series-production engine to be turbocharged with an electric exhaust gas turbocharger.

The electric exhaust gas turbocharger is tech that is a direct derivative of the work done by Mercedes-AMG in F1. The electric turbo spins at 175,000rpm and is powered by the 48-volt onboard mild-hybrid system.

So what does all the techno-wizardry do? The C43 AMG's engine pushes out 402bhp at 6,750rpm and 500Nm of peak torque at 5,500rpm. This is sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive. The engine is also aided by the belt-driven starter generator system that adds another 13.4bhp whenever required.

Prime the launch control system, and when you release the brakes with the loud pedal floored, the Mercedes-AMG will go from 0-100km/h in a seatbelt-tightening 4.6 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 250km/h.

There are three different modes for the AMG Air Ride control adaptive dampers - Comfort, Sport and Sport+. The modes tweak the air ride suspension system and help the C43 deliver sporty driving dynamics and comfort depending on the chosen mode.

The C43 AMG also sports rear-wheel steering which operates with a maximum steering angle of 2.5 degrees. The rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels at speeds of up to 60 km/h helping with agility at lower speeds.

At speeds over 60km/h, the rear wheels follow the direction changes of the fronts, helping with stability at higher speeds which allows for faster and more direct direction changes at speed.

Thoughts About The Mercedes-AMG C43

The Mercedes-AMG C43 may not be as mad as the fully unhinged plug-in hybrid C63 version of the new C-Class but it has more than enough oomph to put most vehicles on our roads to shame with ease.
