Maruti Suzuki Recalls More Than 11,000 Units Of Grand Vitara SUV – Check Out All Details
Maruti Suzuki has issued a recall of more than 11,000 units of its Grand Vitara SUV in India due to a possible defect in its rear seat belt mounting brackets.
Diving into details, 11,177 units of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUVs that has been manufactured between August 8 and November 15 last year will receive recall notice according to the Indo-Japanese automaker.
This is the second time Maruti Suzuki has recalled the Grand Vitara SUV. Earlier, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV was recalled over a faulty airbag controller. However, other Maruti Suzuki models such as the Alto K10, S-Presso, Eeco, Brezza and Baleno were also recalled alongside the Grand Vitara SUV citing the same issue.
Following the earlier recall from Maruti Suzuki regarding the issue with the airbag controller, Toyota also issued a recall of the Toyota Glanza hatchback and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder since both these models are essentially rebadged counterparts of Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Brezza, respectively.
Speaking about Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, it is the automaker's first model to feature a panoramic sunroof, and strong hybrid powertrain system. Other than that, the Grand Vitara SUV has been hugely successful for the Indo-Japanese automaker as the SUV racked up more than 55,000 bookings within a few weeks of its launch.
Coming to the powertrain, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV comes with two hybrid engine options. The mild-hybrid engine is the automaker's own 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine. This engine comes with an Integrated starter generator and produces a total of 102bhp of peak power and 135Nm of peak torque.
On the other hand, there is a more powerful 114bhp strong hybrid powertrain sourced from Toyota, where the internal-combustion engine is a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally-aspirated, Atkinson-cycle, petrol engine capable of producing 91bhp of peak power and 122Nm of peak torque, and the electric motor that is part of the hybrid unit produces 78bhp of power and 144Nm of torque.

With an aggressive price tag and frugal engine options, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV has become another success story for the Indo-Japanese automaker. That being said, back-to-back recalls could hamper the reputation of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV and affect future sales as well.
