Maruti Suzuki Jimny Launched At Rs 12.74 Lakh - The Gypsy Finally Has A Successor
Maruti Suzuki has launched the Jimny (5-door) SUV in India. The Maruti Suzuki Jimny has been launched at a starting price of Rs 12.74 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door is offered in three basic trim levels - Zeta, Alpha and Alpha (Dual Tone). All three trim levels are offered with manual and automatic transmission options bringing the total variant count for the Maruti Suzuki Jimny to 6.
The base Jimny Zeta MT is priced at Rs 12.74 lakh while the Alpha MT commands a price tag of Rs 13.69 lakh. The Alpha MT (Dual Tone) is priced at Rs 13.85 lakh.
The automatic variants start at Rs 13.94 lakh for the Zeta AT with the Alpha AT priced at Rs 14.89 lakh. The top-spec Alpha AT (Dual Tone) commands a price tag of Rs 15.05 lakh (all prices mentioned are ex-showroom).
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny sees the nation's largest carmaker return to the off-roading market for the first time since the Gypsy was discontinued for good in late 2018.
The new Jimny for India looks like the same boxy SUV sold abroad but features an extra set of doors. The Jimny 5-door features a body-on-frame design that uses a ladder frame setup with a 3-link rigid axle suspension setup with coil springs. The Jimny rides on 15-inch wheels (steel/alloy).
Powering the Jimny in India is Maruti Suzuki's K15B 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 103.4bhp and 134.2Nm of peak torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox and Suzuki's AllGrip Pro 4-wheel drive system with a low-range transfer box.
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny's interiors are quite spartan except for the 9-inch infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The high-def display is connected to a sound system tuned by Arkamys.
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny comes packed with a host of safety features that include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Brake Limited Slip Differential, Hill Hold Control, Hill Descent Control, ISOFIX Child Seat Anchorages, and a rearview camera among others.
