Maruti Suzuki Fronx Vs Maruti Suzuki Brezza – Sibling Rivalry At Its Best

Maruti Suzuki finally unveiled its much-awaited Baleno-based SUV at the Auto Expo 2023. Apart from that, the new SUV has been named Fronx by the Indo-Japanese automaker.

That being said, the new Maruti Suzuki Fronx is a sub-4m SUV, which means it must also compete against the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. As such, let us compare both these sub-4m SUVs in terms of their design, features and powertrain options.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx Vs Maruti Suzuki Brezza

Design

In terms of design, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza looks very conventional yet bold with its boxy design language. Moreover, design elements such as angular LED headlamps, two-piece taillamps and chunky squared-off wheel arches makes the updated Brezza SUV look contemporary and ready to take on the urban jungle.

On the other hand, credit must be given to designers at Maruti Suzuki engineers as the newly unveiled Maruti Suzuki Fronx SUV looks drastically different from the Baleno premium hatchback on which it is based on. Apart from that, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx looks very stylish and premium with its sloping roofline, split LED headlamps and squared-off wheel arches with black cladding. That being said, the Fronx SUV looks a lot more premium than the Brezza SUV.

Interior

The new Brezza SUVs interior looks quite premium with its dual-tone and layered dashboard design. On top of that, the large 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment unit further uplifts the cabin. That being said, the new Maruti Suzuki Fronx SUV comes with an almost identical interior to the updated new Baleno hatchback and it looks slightly more premium than the Brezza SUV despite sporting many common design elements.

Powertrain

In terms of powertrain, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza SUV comes with just one powertrain option. Also, this 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated, 4-cylinder petrol engine comes with 104bhp of peak power and 137Nm of peak torque. In addition to that, the Brezza SUV can be specified with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

In comparison, the new Maruti Suzuki Fronx SUV has been unveiled with two engine options. The base engine option is a 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated, petrol engine with 88.5 bhp of peak power and 113Nm of peak torque. Other than that, this engine can be specified with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT unit.

The second engine option on the Maruti Suzuki Fronx SUV is a 1.0-litre, Booster Jet (turbocharged) engine with 98.6bhp of peak power and 147.6Nm of peak torque. Other than that, this engine option can be specified with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Though we expect the majority of the Fronx SUV customers to opt for the less powerful 1.2-litre engine, the 1.0-litre Bossterjet engine to perform better under loads due to the torquey nature of the turbocharged engine. Additionally, we expect the Fronx SUV with the Booster Jet engine to have better in-gear acceleration as well.

Thoughts About Maruti Suzuki Brezza & Maruti Suzuki Fronx

With the launch of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, it is clear that the Indo-Japanese automaker is looking forward to dominating the sub-4m SUV segment. Moreover, it is worth mentioning that the designs of both the Brezza and Fronx SUVs are very different. That being said, the Fronx SUV looks a lot more premium and we expect it to perform marginally better than Brezza thanks to its turbocharged engine option.
