Maruti Suzuki revealed the Fronx SUV at Auto Expo 2023. The Fronx is based on the Baleno but features a very different design as well as a raised suspension setup compared to its hatchback sibling.
In this first-look review of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, we'll take a look at the specifications, dimensions, design & features of the new SUV revealed at Auto Expo 2023.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx - Exterior Design & Colour Options
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is the latest addition to the carmaker's SUV lineup. The all-new Fronx sports quite a few design highlights that have been seen on Maruti Suzuki's latest crop of SUVs which includes the likes of the Grand Vitara.
The new Maruti Suzuki Fronx sports an upright front end with a large grille. The Suzuki badge on the upper section of the grille is connected to the sleek LED DRLs. Lower down in their own enclosures on the front bumper sit the LED headlights. The front bumper also sports a small air dam underneath which you can find the faux skid plates in grey that add to the Fronx's SUV looks.
The sides of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx are where the SUV's Baleno origins can still be seen despite the Maruti Suzuki design team's best efforts. However, the combination of the SUV muscle and the Baleno's curves is a rather good one and gives the Fronx a rather aerodynamic look.
The Fronx's C-pillar sports a black insert which gives the illusion of a floating roof. The new Maruti Suzuki Fronx SUV rides on a snazzy set of geometric precision-cut dual-tone alloy wheels. The wheelarches enclosing the wheels sport black plastic cladding which gives the new SUV a more rugged look.
The rear section of the Fronx is all new with the SUV sporting an integrated spoiler element on the roof. The Suzuki badge sits above the full-length LED taillights that feature claw-like extensions on either edge. The sculpted front bumper looks nice and gives the rear section of the Fronx, a proper hint of muscle.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is offered in six single options - Nexa Blue, Arctic White, Grandeur Grey, Earthen Brown, Opulent Red, and Splendid Silver. The final three colours are also offered in dual-tone schemes with a Bluish Black roof.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx - Interior & Features
Step inside the new Fronx and the SUV's Baleno beginnings blare out at you. The Fronx's interiors are lifted directly from its hatchback sibling. The Fronx features a dual-tone theme which is seen in all its glory on the multi-layered dashboard and the door panels.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx comes packed with all the tech that the brand currently offers. The Fronx sports a 9-inch SmartPlay pro+ infotainment display which offers support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and also features Suzuki's Smart Connect suite of 40+ connected car features. Other features on the new Fronx include a heads-up display, a wireless fast charger and fast-charging USB ports at the rear.
The new Fronx also comes packed to the gills with Maruti Suzuki's safety kit including up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, Hill Hold Assist, a 360-degree camera, rear parking sensors aided by a rear-view camera, rear defogger, ISOFIX child seat mounts and a day/night inside rear-view mirror.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx - Specs & Dimensions
The all-new Maruti Suzuki Fronx sees the return of the 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged Boosterjet engine for the first time the Baleno RS was shelved in 2020 after BS6 norms came into play. The Booster jet engine is accompanied by the Baleno's 1.2-litre K12C dual jet, dual VVT engine.
The Boosterjet engine is the more powerful of the two offerings and is offered with the Delta+, Zeta and Alpha trim levels of the new Fronx. The three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine produces 98.7bhp at 5,500rpm under the Fronx's bonnet along with 147.6Nm of peak torque from 2,000rpm to 4,500rpm. The engine is offered with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
The other engine on offer under the bonnet of the new Fronx from Maruti Suzuki is the 1.2-litre Suzuki K12C engine that pushes out 88.5bhp and 113Nm of peak torque. The Fronx's 1.2-litre petrol engine is offered with a choice of a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is 3,995mm long, 1,765mm wide and 1,550mm tall. The Fronx sports a 2,520mm long wheelbase along with a 308-litre boot and a 37-litre petrol tank.
Thoughts About The Maruti Suzuki Fronx
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx sees the nation's largest carmaker head down the crossover route. While;e the interiors may seem to be directly lifted from the Baleno, the exteriors of the Fronx are quite different from its hatch sibling and at first glance, you'll never be able to connect the two.
At first glance, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx looks like another winner from the carmaker's Nexa portfolio and with its launch right around the corner, people are already flocking to book one for themselves. We'll be able to tell you how it drives, when we get behind the wheel of the all-new Maruti Suzuki Fronx in the near future before it hits streets at an expected starting price of around Rs 7 lakh.
