2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift With 40km/l Mileage – Here’s Everything About The New Z12 Engine
Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch the next-generation Swift hatchback in 2024, and the test mules have already been spotted testing in India. It is also worth mentioning that these test mules look almost ready for production.
One of the highlights of the 2024 Maruti Swift hatchback has been the news regarding its mileage. According to sources, the upcoming 2024 Swift returned a mileage of 40km/l in test conditions.

That being said, one of the reasons for this astonishing mileage figure of the 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift is its new powertrain unit. This new powertrain is said to be a lot more efficient than the engine in the outgoing iteration of the Swift hatchback.
Gone is the 1.2-litre. 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated K12 petrol engine that debuted with the 1st-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchback back in 2010. In its place comes a new 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally-aspirated Z12 petrol engine.

Since the new Z12 engine has a similar capacity with fewer cylinders, the engine is said to have better volumetric efficiency. This is said to result in better torque output compared to the older 4-cylinder engine.
Also, being a 3-cylinder engine, the new Z12 engine is expected to be lighter than the K12 engine in the outgoing Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchback. This lighter weight and better torque figures of the Z12 engine is expected to positively impact the performance and efficiency of the 2024 Swift hatchback.

That being said, the upcoming new Z12 engine is not without its demerits. Being a 3-cylinder engine, we expect the Z12 engine to have increased vibrations. Also, we expect the new Z12 engine to be not as free-revving as the K12 engine.
Also, according to sources, the upcoming Z12 engine in the 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift is not expected to sport mild-hybrid tech as it is more efficient. Also, any mild-hybrid tech will also increase the production cost of the engine.

Thoughts About The New Z12 Engine
Though we will miss the free-revving nature of the K12 series engine in the Swift hatchback, we expect a majority of Indian consumers to appreciate the additional torque and mileage figure lent by the new Z12 engine.
