Mahindra Thar RWD Price Hike – Costlier By Rs 50,000
Ahead of the implementation of new emission regulations in India, Mahindra has hiked the price of the Thar RWD in the country. In fact, the price for the Thar RWD has been hiked by Rs 50,000.
However, it is worth mentioning that Mahindra has only hiked the price of the LX trim level of the Mahindra Thar RWD SUV equipped with the diesel engine, manual transmission and a hard top, while the rest of the variants continue to retail with the existing price tag.
Diving into details, with the price hike in place, the diesel variant of the Mahindra Thar LX RWD equipped with a hard top now costs Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India). As a result, the price gap to the 4WD variant is reduced to just 2.67 lakh.
Though Mahindra has started the deliveries for the Mahindra Thar RWD in India, the waiting period for the lifestyle SUV still goes as high as 18 months. In comparison, the demand for Thar RWD with the petrol engine is much less and customers can get one in under 5 weeks.
Speaking about the Mahindra Thar RWD, the model comes with two engine options. The diesel engine is a smaller 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged unit with 115bhp of peak power and 300Nm of peak torque.
On the other hand, the 2.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine produces 150bhp of peak power and 320Nm of peak torque. Furthermore, the diesel powertrain comes exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission, whereas the petrol model comes with a 6-speed AT
In terms of design, Mahindra Thar RWD remains almost identical to the Thar 4X4. In fact, the new RWD variant of the Mahindra Thar SUV uses the same tyres and alloy wheels as its 4X4 counterpart. In fact, the RWD loses none of the rugged design elements as well.
Thoughts About The New Mahindra Thar RWD
The new Mahindra Thar RWD is doing exceptionally well in the Indian automobile market as many of Thar's customers do not do much off-roading. Moreover, we do not expect this price hike to affect the sales of the SUV in any way given the demand in the market.
