Diving into details, the design of the upcoming Mahindra Thar RWD SUV remains almost identical to its 4X4 variant. In fact, the upcoming RWD variant of the Mahindra Thar SUV uses the same tyres and alloy wheels as its 4X4 counterpart. Other than that, all newer models of the Thar SUVs now get 6 colour options.

Out of these 6 colour options, 2 colour options are new which according to the brochure is listed as Blazing Bronze and Everest White. Other than that, the upcoming Thar RWD loses none of the rugged design elements such as the blackened bumpers, moulded footsteps, and wheel arches.

On the inside, the upcoming Mahindra Thar RWD SUV continues to be identical to the Mahindra Thar 4X4 SUV. However, thanks to the absence of the 4WD system, the RWD model does not sport the 4WD gear selector lever that is seen on the standard Thar 4X4.

Coming to the powertrain, the diesel iteration of the RWD version of the Mahindra Thar SUV ditches the larger 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged, diesel engine in favour of a smaller and lighter 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged, diesel engine. This engine puts out 115bhp of peak power and 300Nm of peak torque.

Apart from that, this engine also comes mated to a very highway-friendly 6-speed gearbox. It is also worth mentioning that the RWD version of the Thar SUV is also available with a petrol powertrain. Moreover, the RWD version of the petrol-powered Thar SUV comes exclusively mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Diving into specifications, the petrol engine is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged engine with 150bhp of peak power and 320Nm of peak torque. However, torque is limited to 300Nm in the Thar SUV equipped with 6-speed manual transmission and 4WD.

Thoughts About The Upcoming Mahindra Thar RWD

Since many of Thar's customers are lifestyle buyers and may not require a locking differential or a four-wheel drive system, we expect the Thar RWD to do exceptionally well in the Indian automobile market. Apart from that, we expect Mahindra to launch the Thar RWD with an aggressive introductory price tag.
