Mahindras Latest Marvel: Spy Shots of 5-Door Thars Dashboard Surface!
The Indian automotive industry is abuzz with anticipation over the upcoming 5-door variant of the Mahindra Thar. Enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting its release, with test vehicles already seen on the roads hinting at its imminent arrival, expected around June 2024.
One of the recent reveals that has caught the eye of many is the leak of the 5-door Thar's dashboard, which underwent testing at the Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai.

The Upcoming Thar 5-Door's Dashboard
Spy photographs have captured the dashboard of the 5-door Thar being subjected to vibration assessments, a step critical in verifying the comfort and silence of the cabin. The dashboard's basic structure was visible, showcasing the alterations set to arrive.
Characteristic elements such as the rounded air vents, a recognizable central stack, and a passenger-side grab handle were apparent, alongside a metallic badge positioned below the left air vent, maintaining the Thar's iconic interior design language.
Dual-Tone Scheme, Enhanced Features
Distinct from the current 3-door version's all-black dashboard, the 5-door Thar is set to feature a dual-tone brown and black color scheme, likely extending to the seating fabric. This change aims to echo the more family-oriented utility of the 5-door version, with potential options for varying interior color themes.
The space for the infotainment display has been increased to fit a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a significant upgrade from the 7-inch screen in the 3-door model. This larger screen is poised to operate with Mahindra's latest user interface.

Furthermore, it's anticipated that the 5-door Thar will sport a fresh instrument panel, along with additions such as a sunroof and a new front armrest, plus grab handles on both the A and B pillars.
Design Touches and Mechanical Specs
While retaining the rugged charm of the original Thar, the 5-door model may present slight design tweaks to cater to its demographic. The question of whether its lengthier body and wheelbase will affect its off-road prowess remains. It will provide both rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations.
Under the hood, the engine options will mirror those of the 3-door Thar, with a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 150 PS and 300 Nm of torque, and a 2.2-litre diesel engine delivering 130 PS and 300 Nm. Both powertrains will be available with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
Mahindra has positioned the 5-door Thar within the expected price bracket of Rs 16 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, a segment above the current 3-door model that starts at Rs 10.98 lakh for the entry-level rear-wheel-drive variant and goes up to Rs 16.94 lakh for the top-of-the-line diesel automatic four-wheel-drive variant.
