Mahindra Thar 1 Lakh Unit Production Milestone Achieved Under 2.5 Years – Continues Strong Growth
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. today announced that it had reached the 1 lakh unit production milestone for the 2nd generation Mahindra Thar SUV. Moreover, this remarkable feat was achieved in just under 2.5 years.
This latest production milestone by Mahindra throws light on the success achieved by the 2nd generation Mahindra Thar SUV. On top of that, Mahindra recently introduced RWD variants of the Thar SUV in the Indian market to further improve its sales in the country.
The newly launched Mahindra Thar RWD variants received an overwhelming response from its target audience as the waiting period for the SUV extends more than 18 months. In comparison, the Mahindra Thar 4X4 variants have a waiting period of just under 4 weeks.
The new Mahindra Thar RWD comes with two engine options. The petrol engine is identical to the Mahindra Thar 4X4 with its 2.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine with 150bhp of peak power and 300Nm of peak torque.
On the other hand, the diesel engine in the Thar RWD is a smaller 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged unit with 115bhp of peak power and 300Nm of peak torque. Furthermore, this diesel powertrain comes exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission.
In comparison, the Mahindra Thar 4X4 diesel variant is powered by a 2.2-litre, turbocharged diesel engine with 130bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. Also, customers can either choose a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission with this powertrain.
In terms of design, the Mahindra Thar RWD remains almost identical to the 4X4 variant with rugged design elements such as blackened bumpers, moulded footsteps, and wheel arches. On the inside, it is the same story with the only difference being the absence of a 4WD system.
Thoughts About The New Mahindra Thar SUV
With the launch of the Mahindra Thar RWD, the automaker opened its doors to a new type of lifestyle buyers who are not interested in off-roading. With such high demand for the Mahindra Thar RWD, we expect Mahindra to soon break other milestones as well.
