Lucid Gravity Luxury Electric SUV Arrives To Challenge Tesla Model X
American luxury electric vehicle start-up, Lucid Motors, has unveiled its second model. Dubbed the Lucid Gravity, the new American luxury EV is a seven-seater SUV.
The Lucid Gravity follows up on the Lucid Air, which was adjudged the World Luxury Car of the Year earlier his year. Production of the Gravity will commence in 2024 with the SUV expected to go on sale later the same year.
The Gravity promises to push the boundaries of electric mobility with a range of over 708 kilometres from its approximately 120kWh battery. It will also feature ultra-fast charging speeds of 350kW, enabling up to 200 miles of charge in just 15 minutes. Furthermore, the vehicle boasts an impressive efficiency of around 3.6mi/kWh, courtesy of compact power-dense electric drive units and a 900-volt electrical architecture.
Aesthetically, the Gravity follows the design theme set by the Lucid Air saloon, featuring slim LED headlights that blend into a horizontal grille. Despite its size, the SUV's aerodynamic shape manages a drag coefficient of just 0.24Cd, which contributes to its efficiency.
Inside, the cabin features high-quality, sustainable materials, and plenty of glass. The windscreen extends from the bonnet to well over the driver and front passengers' heads, providing a panoramic view.
The middle row of seats slides forward for easy access to the third row, while stadium-style seating offers those in the back a good view forward through the giant windscreen. With all seats folded flat, Lucid claims a total capacity of 3,171 litres.
The Gravity's technological offerings are equally impressive. Lucid's Clearview Cockpit features a slick 34-inch curved glass OLED display that appears to float in front of the dash. A quick access bar, dubbed the 'Pilot Panel', has been added to the central infotainment screen for easy control adjustments.
Furthermore, Lucid has partnered with mental health specialists Meditopia to provide a meditation experience inside the car. The Lucid Sanctuary and Lucid Spaces are interactive well-being features designed to introduce tranquillity and sereneness on the go.
The Gravity is no slouch when it comes to performance. Its 0-60mph time is less than 3.5 seconds. Additionally, an optional enhanced air suspension can raise the car for tougher terrain or lower it for increased efficiency. However Lucid has not revealed any further details about the Gravity's powertrain.
