The Land Rover Defender 130 Outbound Has A Boot So Big You Can Fit In It

British SUV specialist Land Rover is set to go electric next year. However, before that transition to pure electricity, Land Rover is trying its best to ensure that its customers enjoy the dino juice as much as possible.

Case in point the new Land Rover Defender 130 Outbound special edition. It looks like any other Defender 130 from the outside, albeit with some extra design garnish, a stealthy paint job and blocked-out rear windows.

However, it is only when you step inside the Outbound that you realise just how special it is and why the extended rear window is now no longer part of reality. The Outbound deletes the third row of seats from the extended Defender 130, leaving you with a massive cargo bay at the back.

The luggage space is more than enough to carry the luggage of all five passengers in the Outbound along with their dog and anything they need to take the ultimate outdoor holiday.

The Defender 130 Outbound offers up 1,329 litres of boot space which can be expanded even further to an even crazier 2,516 litres if you fold down the rear seats. The Outbound can also tow loads up to 3,000kg which means that you can probably shift homes with it.

In terms of the propulsion setups under the bonnet, the Defender 130 Outbound is offered with mild-hybrid six-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engines producing 394bhp and 296bhp, respectively.

For those not interested in the extra cargo space but wanting a bit more power, Land Rover finally dropped its V8 under the bonnet of the extra-long Defender 130.

The 5.0-litre supercharged V8 produces 493bhp and 610Nm of torque under the bonnet of the Defender 130. This is quite a bit down from the 518bhp and 625Nm it puts out under the bonnets of the Defender 90 and 110.

The Defender 130's V8 engine sends power to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. This V8 powertrain propels the Defender 130 from 0-100km/h in 5.4 seconds.

The Defender 130 V8 also sports quite a few design tweaks to separate it from the plebs with the inline six cylinders. These include a quad-tip exhaust setup, V8 badges all around, darkened tail lights, a sliding panoramic roof and 22-inch alloy wheels.

The interior has been upgraded as well with the V8-powered Defender 130 sporting 14-way heated and cooled electric driver memory seats, four-zone automatic climate control, a head-up display and a Meridian sound system connected to an 11.4-inch touchscreen infotainment display.

Thoughts About The Defender 130 Outbound & V8 Models

Land Rover is not going quietly into the electric age and the latest acts of fossil fuel-induced hedonism from the marque are two new versions of the Defender 130 that take the insanity to a whole new level.
