1,001bhp Lamborghini Revuelto Revealed - Countach's Grandson Goes Hybrid

Lamborghini is turning 60 this year and to mark the occasion the Italian marque has decided to gift itself and the rest of the world a rather mad birthday present - a V12 hybrid with 1,001bhp (1,015PS) on tap dubbed the Revuelto.

The Lamborghini Revuelto is the latest in the Sant'Agata Bolognese firm's lineup of V12 flagships, a lineage started by the legendary Miura, considered by most people to be the first-ever supercar.

However, the Revuelto takes that V12 formula and adds three electric motors and the result of this is a Raging Bull that blurs the lines between supercars and hypercars.

The Lamborghini Revuelto draws power from a brand new 6.5-litre V12 which is 17 kilos lighter than the previous engine that powered the Aventador. The Lamborghini Revuelto's 6.5-litre engine, dubbed the 'L545', produces 814bhp at 9,250rpm and 725Nm of peak torque at 6,750rpm.

The Revuelto's L545 engine revs to ear-piercing 9,500rpm and has been rotated 180 degrees compared to the one on the Aventador for packaging purposes.

The powerplant is paired with an all-new 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox that sits behind the engine which can now downshift continuously through multiple gears if the driver holds down the left paddle shifter.

Adding to the powerfest are three electric motors one that sits on the rear axle and two on the front that takes the total system power output to 1,001bhp.

The three motors are connected to a 3.8kWh battery pack that sits where you would find the transmission tunnel. The battery takes just 6 minutes to charge back up to full.

There are four major driving modes - Citta (City), Strada (Street), Sport and Corsa (Race). The new Citta mode uses only the electric motors which are limited to just 177.5bhp. Switch over to Strada and the engine comes into play and the output rises to 874bhp.

In Sport mode, the output rises further to 894.5bhp, however, if you want access to the full insanity, Strada mode has to be activated. In Strada mode, the Revuelto unleashes the full 1,001bhp output of its hybrid powertrain.

All that power means that the new Lamborghini Revuelto sprints from 0-100km/h in just 2.5 seconds. 0-200km/h takes under 7 seconds in the Revuelto which has a top speed in excess of 350km/h.

So does the Revuelto have the flair to match its powertrain's madness? In a single word, Yes. The Revuelto borrows some of the best hits from Lamborghini's recent supercars and limited edition cars and forged them into its new series production V12 supercar.

The iconic wedge shape is still very visible and the front Y-shaped LED daytime running lights are taken from the Sian FKP 63. The doors are the usual Lambo special scissor units for all the extra drama and feature hidden handles which are a part of the intakes that feed air into the mid-mounted engine.

The rear section of the new Revuelto features a large diffuser element which has forced the exhausts upwards. The high-mounted exhausts, which extend out of the exposed engine, are twin hexagonal pods that sit between the Y-shaped taillights.

Inside, the new Revuelto is roomier and features a triple display setup. The first is the 12.3-inch driver's display while the passenger side features a 9.1-inch unit. Between these two sits a vertically mounted 8.4-inch infotainment display.

The Revuelto's steering wheels are full of buttons along with four dials that help change the driving modes, activate launch mode, change the hybrid system setup and operate the front lift. The seats are clad in a new fabric dubbed Corsa-Tex.
