Kia Carens MPV Achieves 1 Lakh Unit Sales Milestone: Another Success Story For Kia India
Kia India recently announced that its Carens MPV surpassed the 1 lakh unit sales milestone in the country. What is even more interesting is that the milestone was achieved in little more than one and a half years.
Looking into details, Kia India launched the Kia Carens MPV back in February 2022. Since the day of its launch, the Kia Carens managed to immediately gain traction in the Indian automobile market with a large number of bookings piling up.
In fact, thanks to the large number of bookings, the waiting period for the Kia Carens MPV at the time of launch, easily went beyond 1 year for higher-spec variants. It is also worth mentioning that the success of Kia Carens MPV was imminent as it had no direct rivals.
Elaborating on Carens' market positioning, the model was positioned in between the affordable Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the bigger and more expensive Toyota Innova Crysta. This gave buyers a good choice that aptly sits between two of the most successful MPVs in India.
At present, Kia Carens MPV is offered in 6 trim levels, which include Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury, Luxury Plus, and X-Line. Moreover, Kia Carens is offered in 8 shades - Imperial Blue, Moss Brown, Sparkling Silver, Intense Red, Glacier White Pearl, Clear White, Gravity Grey, and Aurora Black Pearl.
Coming to the powertrain, the 2023 Kia Carens ditched the 1.4-litre, turbocharged petrol engine in favour of the new 1.5-litre, turbocharged petrol engine that is not only more powerful but also complies with the BS6 Phase 2 and RDE emission regulations.
This new powertrain puts out 157.8bhp and 253Nm of torque, which is approximately 20bhp and 11Nm more than the previous 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine. While the 7-speed DCT continues to be offered, the 6-speed manual transmission has been replaced by a 6-speed iMT unit.
Other engine options include a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine with 113bhp and 144Nm of peak torque, and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine with 114bhp and 250Nm of peak torque. Also, both engines comply witf the latest emission regulations.
Furthermore, the diesel engine also loses the 6-speed manual transmission and in its place comes a new 6-speed iMT gearbox. Moreover, customers can also choose a 6-speed automatic transmission. That being said, the base petrol engine now comes exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission.
In terms of features, Kia is offering a 12.5-inch digital instrument cluster as standard across all variants. Other features include 10.25-inch infotainment, Apple Car Play and Android Auto, UVO-connected car tech, BOSE sound system, and more.
Safety features include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program (ESP), vehicle stability control (VSC), brake assist systems (BAS), Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), ISOFIX Mounts, hill-hold assistance, all-wheel disc brakes and a few more.
Thoughts About The Kia Carens Milestone
The biggest reason for the Kia Carens' success is its positioning in the Indian automobile market and what it offers at this price point. Not only, did the model attract potential Innova Crysta customers with a lower price tag, but it also pushed Ertiga buyers to spend more.
