Jeep Compass Petrol Variants Discontinued In India – Official Statement Confirms
Jeep has now made it official that they're discontinuing the petrol versions of the Compass SUV and will only offer it as a diesel engine going forward. Earlier this week, news was all over the internet saying that Jeep had discontinued the Compass petrol variants.
This is an unusual move by the carmaker in the Indian market, as most automakers are discontinuing diesel engines and focusing on petrol/hybrid powertrains. Since Compass was the selling product of the Jeep, they should have made greater efforts to develop new petrol engine alternatives.

Rumors suggest Jeep's failure to comply with India's latest emission norms is why the SUV's petrol variants are discontinued. But putting an end to the speculations, Jeep has officially released a statement regarding the company's decision.
The official statement states, "The Premium SUV segment continues to enjoy a strong demand for diesel powertrain. Jeep India will continue to invest and develop its efficient state-of-the-art 2.0 L MultiJet Turbo Diesel powertrains offering superior torque, lower emissions and an impressive fuel efficiency."
Further, the statement read, "Jeep India is committed to the market and has significant product plans for the future. We will continue to explore all possible engine and fuel options in line with the evolving market preferences to offer what is most relevant to our consumers".
However, the statement also implies that there may be potential developments regarding newer engines and fuel options, which is reassuring for Compass admirers. The discontinued petrol variant of Compass was offered in a 1.4-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produced 163bhp of power and 250Nm of torque.
Compass is available in three variants - Sport, Limited, and Model S. These are only offered in a 2.0-liter MultiJet-Turbo diesel powertrain that delivers 173bhp of power and 350Nm of torque.
The diesel Jeep Compass will cost you around Rs. 21.44 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base model and goes up to Rs. 31.64 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top-end model.
The interior of the Compass has a host of features like a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital cluster, automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, a powered tailgate, a panoramic sunroof, and wireless phone charging.
The Compass offers superior safety features like six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability
control (ESC), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), rollover mitigation, hill hold assist, a reverse parking camera, and a 360-degree camera.
Thoughts About Jeep's Official Statement On Discontinuing Petrol Variants Of Jeep Compass
According to Jeep, the decision to discontinue the petrol variants of their Jeep Compass is entirely based on the increasing demand for diesel powertrains in the premium SUV segment across India.
With a strong commitment to the market and significant product plans for the future, Jeep assures its customers that it will explore all possible engine and fuel options in line with evolving market preferences, demonstrating its determination to offer what is relevant to its customers.
